WWE Official's Thoughts On Repeated Mass Cuts

It seems like WWE's anti-competition tactics are coming back to haunt them. All the BS from Triple H about 'Global Localisation' was just corporate spin for stamping out the competition and creating another monopoly. But this doesn't work if a strong competitor pops up and because they haven't faced any in a very long time, WWE panicked and acted to stamp out AEW but failed. So here we are now, a once hot wrestling brand being gutted and replaced by the new kid on the block. On the flip side, these releases will replenish the indies and make it strong again which is good for wrestling.

No. Letting their contracts run out if they don't request a release. That's the best move. Firing talent when they are scheduled on the next program, on the same night is not it.

My heart goes out to the released talent. I know they will land on their feet elsewhere, as much as it sucks given WWE's current landscape them being let go is a blessing in disguise

I'm still having trouble understanding. If Covid put a hold on things, why not continue to utilize your talent on your current platforms, since you can't expand? Some of the jargon, that was given to SRS, still seems like half truths.

I think there’s a larger business issue here. WWE could have formed the business infrastructure on the ground first globally. Why would they not purchase the “real estate” needed and start developing these new hubs before hoarding talent? At least have time table projections. From what they told SRS-it sounds like their plan wasn’t very sound to begin with. They may have been better off to ignore AEW and stick to their original plan. Maybe that would have helped.

It’s lazy booking and unsound business decisions. Why would you sign talent like that for this massive plan…without having the infrastructure in place around the world to initiate your plan?

Feels like the more sardonic fans were right; and WWE hoarding talent, then reaching out to rising indie stars was an attempt to slow down the indie explosion; instead of grooming a new generation of stars, to use in the competitive landscape we have now. That sucks, but isn't a surprise.

The head scratcher for me in the purge over the last several months is, there doesn't seem to be a consistent theme/pattern to the releases. It's not all big money contracts, not just wrestlers in their 40s, not just wrestlers that are injury prone, malcontents, wrestlers who aren't marketable/don't push merch, etc. I just keep imagining a WWE official turning that gold bin they used for Royal Rumbles, another WWE official reaching their hand in, pulling out a ball, and opening up the paper inside to read out the wrestler's name who's next added to the release list.

Silver lining, WWE hoarding talent opened a lot of spots on the Indys that many young men and women were able to capitalize on and make themselves into stars.

So it sounds like AEW being formed started changing their plans, as they started worrying about NXT on USA. Then the pandemic finished it off. Sounds like they were basically trying to build what TK has with the forbidden door

That was what Triple H was talking about with the whole “Global Localization” line. It truly sucks that it didn’t work out and now they have too many players on the bench. Just hope those they let go can shine elsewhere.

I can maybe understand that their plan was to establish development territories around the world -- but they didn't, they still kept bringing in talent around the time they were "parking talent" and given the repetitiveness o of RAW and Smackdown, you are not going to convince me that they couldn't/can't find a way to feature talent on the main roster.

Yeah it’s clear to see this is a sad side effect of the talent hoarding they’ve been doing. When ROH got hot and they did All In, that was the start of the panic buying.
