Hey guys! We wanted to let you know that our sprite artist, Folsky, started reworking the sprites, with Cedrik coming first on the list. This is due to a number of reasons.
First of all, when we originally approached the subject of sprites in the team, we were inexperienced and thus we went with what we thought was right. We decided to take the project's screen size (1920x1080 pixels) as reference for the sprite dimensions, and while it worked, we realized we couldn't correctly scale sprites due to there not being references of their feet.
There was also the problem of some of the backgrounds being made using perspectives that would slightly alter the observed proportions and dimensions of the original sprite model.
Now, coming back to Cedrik. The reason why we chose him as a first reference for this remake is because he's the first character introduced whose height (6ft 2in) is almost equal to that of the Main Character (standing at 5ft 10in) . This would bring him to almost eye level with the MC, allowing us to properly measure and adapt the other sprites, as well as the background perspectives, in an attempt to recreate the size differences properly.
Naturally, we couldn't do this without full feet reference, which is why we've been working on giving these revamped sprites some actual feet :P A thing to keep in mind is that all the characters in our game will have digitigrade feet (or, in the case of Brymror, unguligrade, pillar-like feet, similar to those of elephants), but not plantigrade.
We are also going to draw these newer sprites at higher resolutions, so as to allow for easy resizing and adapting to the needs of our game. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean sprites will now always have their feet be visible. Rather, this is just a measure we took to ensure that the size differences and perspectives we work with stay true to the characters' canon sizes.
