The Wild Robot - AniMat's Reviews

In an era of movie that is dominated by franchises and sequels, originality can still survive and create something beautiful, and The Wild Robot is great proof of this. In this review, I’ll be looking into what makes the Chris Sanders-directed movie so heartfelt with its painted-like animation, along with sharing my reaction to see if I’ll agree with what critics say by calling this the best movie from DreamWorks Animation.

I had a feeling it would special after the first trailer. I'm very glad it is just that.

Definitely happy to hear you had a great and emotional time with this film. I knew you would after seeing it opening weekend with my older brother and getting emotionally invested in Roz’s and Brightbill’s mother-son relationship. This was definitely a pleasant surprise and one of the best animated films of this year next to Inside Out 2 as well as a great return to form for Dreamworks after their last original film Ruby Gilman: Teenage Kraken bombed at the box-office last year.

If this movie haven’t come out this year, then it would’ve been another bleak year for DreamWorks Animation but I’m glad it came out since this is one of DreamWork’s most mature to date. The story was beautifully well told, writing and directing by Chris Sanders was strong, voice acting including Lupita Nyong’o was great, the animation looked stunning, score by Kris Bowers was good, themes of kindness and parenthood was effective, and the heart was very tearjerking. I’ll admit the comedy was okay despite having some dark moments given it related to survival, but I do think it could’ve worked without the comedy but other than that, I do love this movie and possibly be my favorite animated movie of this year even though are a few left to come out like Moana 2 and The Lord of the Rings anime for example but I think this movie has most heart out of all the animated films to come out this year so I believe this will be the best for me. Also, I am sad that this will be the last DreamWorks’ film to b made fully in house before outsourcing to other studios like Sony Pictures Imageworks but at least they go out with a bang to know that this era is coming to an end. Can’t wait to see it again!

I absolutely love this movie, I would definitely go as far and say that this is one of Dreamworks best animated films and a nice send off for this era of Dreamworks, the story is engaging, the animation is absolutely gorgeous and some of the best from the studio and the characters are unforgettable, overall this is such an incredible movie and easily one of Dreamworks best, although it really is unfortunate that this is the last Dreamworks Animation movie where the animation is done in house but they definitely went out with a bang.
