Slipping Away Is Yours Now
Added 2024-10-18 14:25:33 +0000 UTCHere she is! It's your problem now.
My 6th LP from me: Tim Heidecker without the quotes around it. I started writing this record during the summer of 2022 on Tour, backstage, during sound checks, or on the bus. I was making new and lasting friends in Ellie, Josh and Connor. Their love and commitment to music was inspiring. Ellie had brought a little practice acoustic and I kept picking it up, writing little parts, and recording voice memos. Songs started to pile up. I was taking in the country, still recovering from the Pandemic and my song topics steered towards an observational, short story form, set in a post-apocalyptic world..
After tour, I wanted to capture the chemistry of this band so I fleshed out the songs, wrote a few more, and booked time at Love Magnet Studio. I wanted to make this record WITH the band, not just use them as session players. So, for two weeks we all showed up and took it one song at a time and it became one of the most fun and creatively satisfying experiences of my life.
The record gets dark at times, but it's important to play with the darkness, talk about it, make fun of it, and live with it. I hope it reminds you that you're not the only one thinking about this stuff.
A million thanks to the Very Good Band for all the love, talent, humor, and support they each poured into this record. Thanks to Ellie for bringing that guitar on tour, for being there early on to hear these songs, help with the arrangements, and for being a partner in seeing the record through. Thanks to Ian Doerr and Love Magnet for opening your doors and making us feel at home and helping us find the SOUND of the record so perfectly. Thanks to Nick Weidner for capturing the cover art, Keven LaReau for good vibes and helping out, and Felix Havstad Ziska, Jordan Katz, and Jonathan Rado for dropping in and adding your immense musical talents...
And thanks to Bloodshot Records for putting this sucker out into the world! You will likely experience this record through the streaming service of your choice, but it sure helps out if you support physical media and pick up a copy on vinyl or CD. You can find it all at the link in bio.

2024-10-19 19:06:50 +0000 UTCSongs like like I do, and call my mom: who are they about? I initially assumed Tim, but I don't think so. Maybe not about people, but feelings.

2024-10-19 15:37:25 +0000 UTCAll your albums feel like a lovely hug. This album feels like a nice hug and then a kiss on the forehead. Thanks Tim, we’ll take good care of her for ya.

2024-10-19 10:25:06 +0000 UTCNever apologize for going dark, matey. No need to hide in the bushes. Life ain't all unicorns shitting rainbow vanilla ice cream. Quite enjoying "Something Somewhere". Quite the beauty. Cheers.

2024-10-19 03:36:17 +0000 UTCWow, Tim! As you already know from my past missives, your style of music isn't one I listen to. At all. So to prove I’m not reacting sarcastically, I’ll tell you a little story. As an amateur novelist, a common mantra I remind myself with is to “show, not tell”, but I'll have to tell on myself a little bit here. I was watching the Getting to know Mark Proksch (Best of OHL) vid to maybe show a new friend who likes Shadows (and to convert him to OHL). Of course, I got distracted with something else. Then "Dad of the Year" started playing. And I let it play. I was amazed the incognito Youtube algorithm knew how much I enjoyed your album at the listening party. You see, I like to think about things while I go about my day (like cooking, as I did at the party), and your songs were perfect for pondering without pandering. At the end of it all, I realized ~you~ also showed, not told, with your songwriting. “Why do you share what you share?” I wondered to you and myself at the party and throughout this past year of being an OHL fan. And now I know. To think you had been sitting on this egg of sincerity for almost two years! The joy and chemistry we saw from you and the VGB on tour had already crystallized into this gem of an album before any of us knew. If anything, what we saw live was just the tip of the iceberg that is this deep–and sometimes dark–dive into an exploration of humanity. I hope you feel more of a Music Man with this record, and especially after a successful tour next year as you warm our hearts in the cold of winter. I feel privileged to be privy to the multi-hyphenated and multi-faceted parts you share. Thank you for inspiring us, for comforting us. See you next year! -Hanh

2024-10-18 16:44:00 +0000 UTCI just gave this album a spin two times in a row. I needed more than just a test drive. There is so much honesty, heart and soul in this album..... not to mention the tippy top tight musicianship. You really know how to end an album!! I am a 'Kern River' head and wanted to hear how you might end this one. 'Bells are ringing' really got me in the heart, in a beautiful and heavy way. See you on the East Coast this Winter!

2024-10-18 16:36:23 +0000 UTCIt's a phenomenal record! Starts strong and gets better and better as it goes along. Musically it's by far my favorite album of yours. The fact that it's an album made by a band really shines through. Can't wait to give it more listens.

2024-10-18 15:50:35 +0000 UTCTim, I am an excited little schoolboy for everything YOU! I love you and The VERY Good Band, and The Holy Trinity, Cap'n, & everyone involved in Office Hours LIVE. P.S.-I love Bob-O. ♫P.S.- I love you... you you you♪ I got the cool blue vinyl for myself, and a CD for my buddy Brit who I'm visiting in Cali next month. He is a huge fan of yours! He has drawn much inspiration from you and holds such admiration for you. We made funny videos back in the day. We signed the B$M pledge together. He keeps the love and laughter alive. I look forward to every episode, I'm proud to be a patron, and I can't wait to quit being a doofus and call in! Rock on!

2024-10-18 15:40:08 +0000 UTCI've been stuck in that weird creative space lately, where I'm in between projects and not feeling totally fulfilled, but I wanted to tell you that I was so inspired after listening to the album with you and the band last weekend that I sat down and wrote all day the next day. It's so good T. You and the VGB should be really proud. Also side B, especially Bells are Ringing (😭), really makes me think of the book The Wall by Marlen Haushofer https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/586852.The_Wall https://g.co/kgs/bdX6BUj

2024-10-18 15:34:30 +0000 UTCYou keep raising the bar! This is the first time I've had extremely high expectations for one of your albums, and I'm happy to say that my expectations were exceeded. This is going up on the "heavy rotation" wall with Manning Fireworks and The Hard Quartet. Thanks for being you.

2024-10-18 15:12:05 +0000 UTCThe whistling is provided by Vic! I thought they had OHL guest Molly Lewis do a whistling track. Who knew Vic’s lips could produce such beauty 💋

2024-10-18 15:08:55 +0000 UTCI love that much of the record is unabashedly earnest Dad rock (and as a Dad I mean this as a high compliment). I also appreciate the sequencing of side A being brighter and side B being darker. They can’t exist without each other. The Tao of Tim. Will Slipping Away top Fear of Death as my fave Tim album? Too soon to tell… Stoked to hear the songs live in Feb in Nashville ✌️💖

2024-10-18 15:06:31 +0000 UTCCongratulations, Tim, and what a fun journey it's been following you since Cat Film Festival. You're very good at very many things, and "not gonna lie", you're as funny as they get. Cause you're so dang smart. Grabbing the FLACs and going hog with my cans. <3

2024-10-18 14:53:12 +0000 UTCThank you for this Tim (and the band). Been a fan since Mayor and started listening to this after dropping my daughter at school this morning. But then I had to stop and pull over because I needed to give it my full attention. So I sat there and listened to it all. The whole record just feels so beautifully honest. It's inspiring that you are able to convey these feelings with the world. I mean I know you're not sitting around in a dressing gown drinking vodka all day and laughing at the world. No, you're a creative, thoughtful human, and you have your struggles. There's just something about hearing all this from you, that makes it feel ok for me to struggle too. Thank you.

2024-10-18 14:50:14 +0000 UTCSometime in the early oughts there was about a year in which me and my dopey friends communicated almost exclusively in the vernacular of the Beaver Boys. Even back then, the music of Awesome Show was brilliant if you were paying attention. I always thought "man, someone in that production knows music." The humor of it came from how expertly it was always executed. This record is no joke, but the craft remains. Tim, I'm your exact age and became a semi functioning adult who has followed your comedic evolution wherever it went, and if you have this record is not at all surprising, especially for how good it is. Great job!

2024-10-18 14:46:27 +0000 UTCProbably on my 5th listen today and it’s a beaut! There is so much to love: the guitar solo at the end of ‘Trippin (Slippin’)’, the whistling on ‘I Went into Town’, the eerie sampled tune and static at the end of ‘Something Somewhere’ and ‘Bells Are Ringing’ which has had me choked up atleast twice! That’s just skimming the surface! Can’t wait for the vinyl to land on my doormat! Thank you Tim & tVGB! 🤯
