Customer Complaints

Good morning!

Fun show, good to be back with some guests in the room. Aparna was quite affable and good energy. As was Mister Kirby.

I thought i'd begin with a note about this comment:

Don't get the 70s cruise bit. Is the gag that people are enjoying live music acts on a cruise they... paid to be on? Seemed like someone just making fun of something just because they don't personally like it.

It's a good point!  although I'd say we're all mostly fans of the music on that cruise, but fair enough. It was borderline not really that funny or funny for the wrong reasons... it's true: It  was just fairly normal people having a good time... I do argue that there's something really funny about TOAST, A BREAD TRIBUTE, and something about the Frankensteining of these bands, adding new members just to keep the name (the asset) alive - I'm sure most of those musicians didn't imagine themselves on a cruise in 40 years... But whatever,  perhaps we were stretching.

And I had no idea who Connan Mockasin because I'm not cool enough and generally out of the loop, so we'll have to get him back on!

Also saw some criticism on the set, which I agree there was something "wonky" about the angle in relation to the window/screens behind me.   Still dialing it in.  I am glad to be rid of the curtains though and I think we'll continue to dial it in and we'll all just start to get used to it. Also, it's gonna be fun to play on what's ON the screen behind me. Think about THAT!

I saw a little concern online about The Oscar Special this year - we haven't announced it yet but we are definitely having one.  I think it's being announced this week and we've been actively writing and prepping for it for the past few months.

Took the kids to the LA Kings Hockey game the other night. I looked up tickets on Stub Hub and they were pretty cheap! Like 25 bucks a seat, so I figured "THAT'D be something to do!"  Of course, it was up in the nosebleeds which was actually a pretty good place to see the game from. But my crippling fear of heights didn't love it.  The kids freaking loved it. Millie found watching hockey "very satisfying" and by the end, she was screaming "Shoot it! shoot it!"  as the Kings made a last-ditch effort to tie the game before eventually losing.

Oh! Tonight I'm at the Lodge Room for an Abortion Access Benefit Show  it seems very sold out... I don't know what I'm doing and haven't gone up on stage since late last year... WEEKS ago... I think I'll dip into some stand up I was doing last year. I only need to last 10 minutes and it's one of those events with a THOUSAND acts on the bill so the pressure should be set to LOW.

That's all my friends. Got a BIG guest lined up for Thursday. See you THEN!

Peace and Love, T

Vic is an Agent of Chaos. He knows this and embraces it.

Tim, I get where you are coming from with the cruise, because a cruise sounds like PURE HELL to me! Trapped on a floating shopping mall!

honkycat

listen to this T https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hIQIV4JiRrA

Jack

Stop having Vic always be the butt of weird, negative put down jokes. Seems like it happens every episode now. It's really obnoxious.

Andrew W

Hey all silly question inbound. How can I zoom in and try to talk to with da trinity? Much love

Lucas

Gotcha, thanks!

Daniel

technically anyone watching live can watch the whole 2-hour stream the day it airs, you just can't go back and watch previous full episodes if you're not a patron

EKB

Thanks. Isn't that the public one though, and not the secret patreon stream? Or how's that work?

Daniel

Thursdays at 10AM Pacific/ 1PM Eastern, https://www.youtube.com/@OfficeHoursLive

EKB

I have a dumbass question: how can I actually watch live? And is there a way to see the schedule? I've mostly been watching the archives, and I want to try to watch live this week.

Daniel

you should listen to Connan’s music T. I think I saw a pic of you two with Eric at a Playboy Mansion party back in the day.

Jack

I love the new set. the moving clouds are a nice touch. those aren't LED screens are they? is it some kind of back-lit canvas that mechanically scrolls? looks great. My only wish is that you guys find a happy medium with the lighting. It's so bright now and lit from so many angles that it looks blown out and FLAT. poor fair-complected doug was beyond white, almost transparent. There were a few times they got dim when a music guest is playing and I'd even prefer that to the new wash-out look but maybe somewhere in between? peace and love!

STOP HAVING FUN ON THE SHOW BASED ON HAVING FUN

Andres Rivero

The cruise bit was insane. I loved it.

Ian Predham

I loved it. I wish I was old so I could go.

Ashley Oh

I was cracking up all the way through the whole cruise bit. I get that not everything is gonna connect with every audience member, but I kinda feel like if you need the humor there to be explained to you…are you a fan of the show at all? Feels pretty in line with the general OHL comedic tone

chris e

Living the good life, Tim. Cool that you care about the bozos in the audience, but nothings sacred in the game of comedy, not even concert cruises, regardless of how sensible they are. So please lampoon the holy and I say go after a safe, rock solid, inexpensive midrange sedan next and toughen these folks up.

Chalameybe

But it’s not a good point. Isnt that what people make fun of;things they dont like? Has this person really never made fun of and laughed at something they didnt like? The cruise is lame and the people seemed like total nightmares. That was the joke. You gotta start telling people just to fuck off, man. Stop giving into the complaints so much.

cosmonot47

we all can learn and we all can grow!

Alexander Connolly

I’ve been on multiple cruises and I play in two different tribute bands, I found it all in good fun, it made me laugh!

Rob Smith

Cruise fests are weird and f-ed up tho.

Christopher Laramee

You guys should try reading Tims posts with double speed on, feel alive as Johnnny-Five feels! Good Input, Tim!

ToddUmptious

Great show as always and the new set looks awesome!

Alexis

Loved the whole cruise segment, I was cracking up

Colton Caulkins

Didn't see this week's episode yet but love the clips you've put up and the new set. And I got my mom a front row ticket to see you at Wolf Trap in September, Tim. I'm sure you guys will bring down the house!

Angelo Mike

When Aparna said “we’re only 5 minutes in” and I looked at how long that video was lol

Allison Hopstad

I LOVED poor things it was so good. I was laughing way harder than most in the theater lol

Allison Hopstad

Agreed. Let’s just shut down the internet.

Sheridan Flynn

Would love to see Aparna & Robin Tran on the show together!

Tobias

I was crying laughing throughout the whole AI segment and the whole 70s rock cruise segment. I mean I would party with any of those hard rock loving boomers.

Sherri Locker

I like the new set, and especially the enhanced lighting setup. Also appreciate OHL constantly trying new things and finding ways to evolve and improve the show (technically and content-wise). It’s come a long way since the FB live days! P+L

Nicholas Harris

Love “Caramel”! 🖤 (I randomly found Connan from my brother sending me his “Sundae Sessions” on YouTube!)

Dana

Apologies for my cruise comment being abrasive. I see how defensive I came off. I took the bit the wrong way. Enjoyed the show no matter what! Take care.

Count Crackula

I was waiting for a plane to fly by in the background as a tribute to lil Nicky Fuentes

Sam B

It was my comment. Definitely was not looking to create drama. Peace and love.

Count Crackula

Ohl should be a safe space to goof and be silly… life is too short to be so serious, loosen up its a comedy podcast

BITKORN

I thought Aparna and John CK. were great guests! Loving the show so far this year and general positivity - it feels like the trinity are firing on all cylinders with the bits, drops, games, and ads and I like when everyone gasses each other up

the Dude

https://youtu.be/q2aKW7Cv9oU?si=hBEq2iqP3ONlkeMb This is a nice intro to Connan.

Tanuki

Tonight would be a good night to just impersonate trump. I think the crowd would get a kick out of it and you do it so well. Just my two cents of course. That deal with Melania's mom dying was loaded with an angle on which to go wild.

Mary Newman

Definitely check out “Forever Dolphin Love” and “Caramel” by Connan, amazing talent from that side of the pond. And cruises are hilarious as it is, and I should be able to laugh at my parents enjoying aging rockers, get over it.

Steven Meltzer

Same. Tim’s impression of his dad stretching and saying “allll right, think I’m gonna head back” just seemed so spot on. Didn’t feel particularly mean spirited to me.

William Riley

Just saw Poor Things - lots of laughs. Five bags of popcorn and a custard tart!

Joss Humberstone

Joining the chorus of pro-cruise bit folks here. I found it very funny and not particularly mean

Nick Palmer

As a fan of music, I thought the cruise bit was hilarious. Don’t let the negative comments get you down Tim. In my opinion, most of the people who make those type of comments are not looking for sincerity and just want to argue and create drama for a quick dopamine rush. The internet was a mistake (but I’m still having fun!). Also, the set is a cool idea and looks fine to me!

Chase

Overall, the show felt more cohesive with the new set! 💫 Worked well with music guest too- lighting and camera work was cool and set it apart!💙

Dana

Cruise segment was hilarious

Jimjim

On Friday morning I got an email that TOAST is coming to Milwaukee. Odd coincidence or fate?

TJ K

TOAST: A Bread Tribute was well worth the gentle jabbing of cover band cruise folk. The Connan Mockasin blowby was also funny. Aussies are chill. Complaining commenters could serve to chill too! ✌❤

Old James

In regard to the set, I think if there is a way to modify the window frame so the thick bar isn't coming out of Tim's head that would help!

James Gentile

I loved the cruise bit. To me the funny part was the never ending lineup, and the idea of being forced to watch all of these sets back to back.

Dan Reeter

very excited for the screen shenanigans. also unhinged Millie is the energy state I need to be in to get over my second cold. Have a good 10-min show!

lilula9

The cruise bit was fine. It’s objectively funny when bands are trying to keep the party alive with a fraction of the remaining members. I’m a big Grateful Dead fan, and Dead and Co. is silly. People ribbing the silliness doesn’t bother me in the least. Everyone should like what they like, and everyone should be able to poke fun at the collective silliness. I like having fun. I like to laugh.

Jim Schroeder

Don’t wish getting shoved in a locker for liking Atlanta Rhythm Section on anyone, but the cruise was a goof! Hope they stomached Denis Leary’s Bay City Rollers takes on MTV thirty years ago…controversy creates conversation? Still thinking about Rickie Lee Jones’ West Side Story.

Max

That is a strange complaint about the cruise clips... I thought it was funny for precisely all of the reasons that you detailed. Some people haven't yet learned to stop taking everything seriously. Too bad for them. I wish them happiness and fun-loving in the future. Love you guys ❤️

Colin Flora

Spot on Richard D. James, kiddo.

Mada

I am really having a great time so far this year. I've stayed out if the Zoom for a while, which is a different experience. I always feel a little closer to being a part of the show on the Zoom, and I like the pre and mid show banter. The 70s cruise stuff was, to me, not too dissimilar from the Doug's AI prompt segment. There is an aspect to this stage of pop culture, where we are all participating in an aggregation and dissemination, both digitally and temporally, of the past 100 years of that pop culture. So much of what we consume (that's a weird and prescient word) is an approximation of something we've all kind of seen before. Sigh. Anyways. What I love about Office Hours Live, is that we as a community are enjoying the absurdity of that experience. I like having fun. I like to laugh. I like to meet people who can make me laugh. Thank you all

jason noice

Toast made me laugh so hard!

seiyoung lee

Loved the cruise bit! Also Tim and friends, please please check out Connan Mockasin’s Its Choade My Dear or the classic Forever Dolphin Love. Two of my favorite songs ever !! Would love to see him back on :’)

Alexis Rickman

I loved the 70s cruise infomercial patter. There’s a rich seem of piss taking here. It’s so bonkers it can only be very funny. However, in the interest of fairness it might be an idea to hammer a gen-x cruise next.

Sheridan Flynn

The cruise commentary was funny and pretty lighthearted I thought, you guys weren't being nasty or anything

Paul Dye

The cruise bit was the best part of the this week's show

Rebecca Kromer

is there a convenient way for me to see all of the live things you guys are doing? it's always sold out when my slowpoke self sees it! perhaps it's another tab on the rec house?

ariel klevecz

You not knowing who Connan Mockasin is and joking about him having orgies was my favorite part of the show. I’m filing a complaint against the apology!

Will Palmer

Great show, Terry Cruise 🚢

Tony Peterson

NHL games are so great live. Glad the kids enjoyed it!!!
