Apparently one of the judges came forward anonymously and stated they were never informed of the budget controversy so they judged all teams by the same standards. So the bottom three did lose points because their stages were considered lacking.
I know many fans will say that SKZ reused props, that’s true but they also had sets (hallways with walls, backgrounds, etc) on their stage which count towards budgets. It’s not their fault obviously bc M🐍 is either incompetent or is just a 🐍...
...my bet is both.

not only ateez tho. study about things you wanna talk about first, then talk. 3 groups went over budget and you cannot blame the groups for that. blame mnet for not telling the 3 other groups that changes with budget happened

ateez were the ones who went over the budget

Like it's one thing to get 6th place, but getting zero votes is just disheartening

honestly it really hurts to see SF9 not get any votes at all during the group eval.. and I don't even stan them, you would think that with 15 votes (excluding sf9), 3 votes for each group, SF9 would at least- AT LEAST- get one vote, but zero?? I thought their performance was amazing and that broke my heart especially when they were talking about it :( I hope they rank higher in the next episodes cuz damn

if im not wrong, all the performances after this round should have the same budget since mnet was called out for not letting everyone know about the limit for props!

I'm sorry but it's absolute BS that SF9 ranked 6th, their performance was my favorite! I stan every single group on this show besides BTOB so I'm really not biased. How I would have ranked it:
1. SF9 - Their performance was beautiful and refreshing, it was intense and dark but it wasn't overwhelming and there was just the right amount of tricks and set pieces, the arrangement they did of Now or Never was amazing as well. The fact that none of the other groups voted for them boggles my mind and also hurts my heart deeply. Even if they didn't rank first they still deserved at LEAST fourth.
2. BTOB - Their live vocals were stunning, the stage was beautiful, and Minhyuk killed his sword performance. They stuck to what they're good at and kept their unique style but also mixed in that "Kingdom" flair without being too much.
3. The Boyz - Their stage felt a bit chaotic/overpacked, I think the pressure of wanting to live up to what they did on RTK got to them and they went a little overboard in my opinion but even then they still rank third for me. I actually loved the arrangement of No Air, they had some stand out moments that were breathtaking like Juyeon being engulfed in the sheet and the emotions they portrayed on stage were phenomenal. I hope they realize they did do a bit too much and have a more focused stage in the next round though.
4. Stray Kids - I liked their performance but for me personally, the beginning pulled me in but the later half kind of dragged on a bit, I'm not sure if that's a result of the camera work and cuts though. They did amazing as always of course though and the arrangement of the mashup was good I just think that it wasn't as stand out for me as the other teams I ranked higher.
5. Ateez - I love Ateez and Wonderland is one of my favorite title songs from them but I really hated the arrangement they did. The vocals were so quiet in the mix. The classical piece they mixed in was good but it felt like they just took the vocals from the original song and pasted them in with the classical piece so it sounded a bit off, I wish they would have changed up the vocal melody a bit since the arrangement was more classical. The chorus specifically was my main issue. The stage was nice but felt a tiny bit hectic, the kraken thing was cool I guess but the way they "killed" it felt a bit anti-climatic to me?? Like he shot it and it just kind of laid down gently, I know they can't do anything too crazy since there are dancers around it but I do think it should have jerked a bit or something at least? Anyways, I look forward to what they do next week.
6. iKON - Love Scenario is my least favorite title song from them (I know, blasphemy, I'm probably the only person on this planet that doesn't like that song much) but I was looking forward to how they would arrange it. Alas, I didn't really like the "big band" sound they went for as it's not really my style and it felt like the "Killing Me" part was a bit sudden and wasn't worked in as well as it could have been. I know they can do amazing things, they're just trying to find their footing and figure out the best way to go about things so I can't wait to see them step it up in future rounds.
I'm not really sure why, it could just be that my mood isn't too great recently and that's affecting my judgement but so far none of the Kingdom stages have struck me much besides SF9's this round. Idk if it's the high expectations I have from watching Road To Kingdom or what. RTK's budget was definitely way smaller and yet I still have so many performances that I absolutely love and still watch from this point in the competition. The performances on RTK were just so amazing, I think the reliance on big set pieces, props and stunts is also what's kind of pulling me back. Of course there were props and stunts in RTK but it wasn't this much, the choreo and arrangement took priority in RTK I feel like? I'm really not sure how to explain it or why I feel a bit detached from Kingdom, especially since all the groups I love are here whereas I really only stanned two groups on RTK.

Also would just like to say this ep did SUCH an effort to make JYPE look so good which as an Ahgase just makes me cringe. I just hope they really take good care of SKZ even in the future too.

Omg, reading the comments, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought SF9 should have a higher ranking. The concept was really good, the story has great continuity, and that two-way mirror bit in the performance really stuck with me. Also, the beginning shot where the camera tilts was just so beautiful, it's haunting. Although I cannot really put them in the top 3 but they defo should have been in 4th.
BTOB's and iKON's performance were great and really enjoyable (I swoon for the Missing You arrangement) - musically and just the overall vibe of the songs and how they performed them. It's just that I felt that they lacked in the storytelling aspect. Should I say, the concepts were solid but very vague?
Like for BTOB, there was this fighting bit and then the seasons changed signifying that line in the song "one year has passed", but there was no backstory to that. But if they somehow made it where Minhyuk had this lover but then he was drafted to fight in the war and he was doing all this to go back to her, now that would make a lot more sense. Same goes for iKON. I think if it wasn't revealed beforehand that the concept was what goes on with a man going through a breakup (happy outside, dying inside), the performance would just be a really fun mash-up of two of their representative songs.
As for the top 3, I definitely agree with David's ranking. ATEEZ is first, no question. The seamlessness of their storytelling ugh - it was advantageous too since they based on an already well-known story - and the Kraken, that juicy not-so-little thing. It just takes your mind off of the other performances.
TBZ and SKZ were pretty close but what really tipped it was how chaotic SKZ's stage was for me. I mean, both used a TON of props, plenty of shocking elements, and various hair-raising moments but TBZ executed theirs smoother? I guess because of experience TBZ just pulls it off in a cleaner way. Like you can actually focus on them and what they're trying to convey and not get distracted. TBZ rarely used the props directly - they're more like backdrops and stage fixtures. I think that's how their stage can be intense but not overbearingly so.

Yeah smaller groups actually benefit more from this system than having it only be one vote each than the popular groups, if they got rid of that like a lot of fandoms are asking for, I know the gaps for voting will be massive

to be honest, it's not that much of a popularity ranking since you have to vote for 3 groups.
I'm pretty sure Ateez current active fanbase is bigger than sf9's and btob's. But due to the system, more people gave votes to the 'smaller' fandoms thinking they'd get the least votes which ended up placing them higher.

Don't think they are able to screen record on Viki... It was mentioned as an option when they were watching He is psychometric but they said they they can't cause Viki doesn't allow them to screen record. Unless Viki has done some changes

I don’t know if they will announce it on episode 4 tho because they already recorded it and other things before the voting even happened, I don’t remember if episode 2 was even released yet. So we might not even find out until episode 5 or 6, unless they edit their reactions in to an earlier episode even tho they didn’t know at the time

Just wanna make sure to let you know that the results at the end is not the final result for this round, it's only the group evaluation and ranking by "experts". On episode 4 the winner of the first round will be announced (so the final rank is including fan votes).

Like others have suggested, watch the episodes on VIKI! the quality is good and the subs get added quickly - there are some ads tho unless u pay for a subscribtion.

also I suggest you watch It on viki! the subs come in really quick and there's way more words subbed and they also say who's saying what. the quality is better too, there's just ads.

yes the minute I saw the kraken, I knew ateez won, but stray kids left a bigger impact to me than The Boyz. The Boyz looked really pretty and had a nice concept but skz's mashup was something I never knew could happen. their concept was out of this world and they displayed it so well. the fact they made me completely forget about the previous performances is amazing. but sf9 man I was disappointed to find out not ONE group voted for them, I thought they did amazing.

Even if I've aready seen it I love watching it again with you ! I prefer watching it on viki though because the songs are also translated and it adds something to the performances.
Oh and the results are not finals, the fans have 3 days to vote on the app after the show airs and the streaming for the video last at least 3 days (maybe a week?? we actually don't know for sure) so we'll have the final ranking next week.

Same for the 1st and 2nd place ! I'm a stay and I think it's fair that Ateez got first place. Both their stage and remix of the songs were amazing but I think ateez got more points on the vocal performance. I hope SKZ will show more of their vocals because we all know they can have powerful stage but I don't think everyone know that they are very good singers (and rappers).

It also broke my heart and also seeing one of them injured himself, all I was thinking was that if it were me i'd be like "all of this for this result lmao". In a way I think it's not fair that some groups can have rehersals all together and others have to practise alone and put it together on the last day. I voted for them and I hoped other fans did too because they deserved better !

For me it was between Stray kids and Ateez for 1st place but I loved the arrangement of Ateez's performance more. It felt so powerful with the orchestra!! And I have a weak spot for The pirates of the Caribbean so "pirate music" always makes me hype.
And yes, their whole budget probably went to the tentacle😂 I think I read somewhere that most of the props they had were reused from other stages so I'm guessing most of the money went to the Kraken 😂

My heart broke for sf9... They worked soooo hard despite their busy schedules and the fact that it was hard for them to practice together. Seeing that they got 0 votes from the group evaluation made me so sad and hearing what Inseong said almost made me cry... Yes their performance wasn't the best out of all 6 but it was not worthy of 0 points.... None of the performances was. I hope that they weren't too hard on themselves after that 😔
People only see them as a pretty face but they are so much more than that and they are both talented and extremely hard working.
And also the fact that Mnet is feeding of Rowoon's popularity and using him as the thumbnail for the episode 4 preview on youtube makes me so mad... You're gonna treat them like that but when it's for your own good and for views you're gonna use them.... so mad

It's so obvious the three teams who used a higher budget...and that the fact that those three teams are probably the ones who consistently scored 1st - 3rd place. It's just not fair man!! I'm trying so hard to be unbiased and fair, but MNET is making it sooo hard!!

stray kids stage felt big but almost all of it was recycle/used before. esp the table, ribbon and table cloth. regarding the budget, a lot of articles was release but it was never sure that only one exceed the budget, the only clear statement was 3 groups were informed of the lifting of 5M won budget while the other 3 groups were not informed. overall for me, sf9 deserve top 3 and I was so shock that they were last, their concept was so great and was conveyed even with few props (which should be harder to do)
regarding voting, the fans have to choose three groups to official vote and it has to be 3 different groups so it will still be hard to guess who will win since its all base on the fans strategy on how will they vote

It's funny that you said that SF9 remind you of EXO, because, Yoo Taeyang is the biggest fan of EXO especially Kai, and Zuho the main rapper is a good friend of Chanyeol and Suho, and also a friend of Suga.
Concerning the budget issue, we just know that 3 groups were made aware of the change of budget but we don't know which one.
An other issue is that Kingdom experts confirmed that they weren't informed about unfair production cost issues and couldn't evaluate properly, due to some streaming link errors, like for exemple, the audio and the video wasn't synced.
About SF9 performance, they don't actually say "Jealous", they say "Jilloseo" meaning "I did it".
Their concept was a dark version of Snow White mixed with the story of the famous novel/movie "The perfume: the story of a murderer".
