If I remember correctly then didn't Mallard Conway refer to WIlliam as Wisperer, but not refer to the others as their hero names? What if Mal wasn't referring to WIll's superhero name but instead as the actual Wisperer of the time. It'd explain why Mal took interest in WIlliam in the first place and would explain how Mallard knew WIlliam could travel between the Soul World, Chaos Realm, and the Overworld. After all, I doubt WIll was the very first ghost-themed superhero, which would mean Mal most likely took interest in the fact that William shared a name with Wisperer (Which he would know about already because of his knowledge of spirits) and also happened to control the wisps. I'm not sure if this is correct, but it sure is a theory! :D
