I once made a character specifically for getting around some of my roleplay anxiety, and I kind of want to share how I made it, not only as an example of how someone could expand on a personal concept, but also to show anyone who might be worried about a bad habit or fear while roleplaying that you can design a character to fit or even help you with it. Initially, I wanted to make a character that does zany, quirky things, but I knew if I made it a personality choice rather than a backstory choice I would just regress back into being quiet, since I've had it happened before. So, I pondered why a character would feel the need to act that way and considered it could do with the concept of individuality. That thought immediately brought me to mind control, and, suddenly, an idea came to mind. A creature from the underdark, unfamiliar with the overworld, who escaped a hivemind. Their biggest fear is the loss of their freewill, so they do the most unique things to ensure themselves that they still can and to avoid succumbing to "autopilot" in case it forced them back. The idea for playing them is that our emotions and goals would align better during roleplay, thus making it easier to be in character, even when apprehensive.
