Not a spoiler, just a personal observation - for me the kitten and eyes and bugs were the creepiest part of the entire show so I was holding my breath thinking "if they can get through this, they'll be fine." ha!

Totally agree! I was even older - in college - when my maternal Grandpa died (my first close death) and everyone around me told me "you need to go see the body, you need to go see the body." Fortunately my psychologist father and very empathetic mother told me to do whatever I felt comfortable with. My biggest wish was to remember my loved one in life, not death, so I didn't view the body. Best decision for me and I'm extremely happy I stuck to what I wanted. I'm 51 now and to this day this has been my decision at every funeral/wake. Some folks need that, I don't. And both are okay.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you guys about needlessly traumatizing children by forcing them to experience certain things at wakes. I have a really vivid memory of attending one for a family member when I was 12 and I’m so glad nobody forced me to go see the body up close. I understand why it’s a good thing for some people, but I don’t think much falls into a cookie cutter mold in life, including this. I don’t think everybody needs to experience death a certain way in order to properly process grief. My parents were flawed just like every parents out there, but they gave me so many choices growing up - and that’s something I fully plan on giving my own children one day.
