1964 was a very important year for the Skyline. Following their dramatic defeat at the 1963 Japan Grand Prix, Prince sought to step up their domestic motorsports program, providing sports kits to customers for their S50 generation Skyline in preparation for the next Japan Grand Prix. An official works team dubbed "the 7 Samurai of Prince" was founded, and work went into fitting the "Super-6" 2L engine from the Prince Gloria sedan in the tiny Skyline for the GT-II race.
While a victory was ultimately not in the charts for Prince in the GT-II race, the T-V race was a complete Prince walkover. With many Prince supported factory drivers entering tuned Skyline 1500 sedans - their only rival being an underequipped Lotus Cortina, the Prince 1500's managed to finish in 1st through 8th place. More notable was the winner, Ikuzawa, who managed to go from the back of the grid after his engine malfunctioned to first place.
