A quick note on credits...
Added 2025-04-17 15:14:51 +0000 UTCHello Extended Episode and VIP Patrons!
We're just writing to keep you up-to-date on something relating to the 'Get your name in the Credits' perk that comes with your support.
From now on, we can only guarantee you'll appear in the credits if you've got an 'Active' membership, as Patreon sees it.
This means that, if you're part of a tier that includes getting your name in the credits and you cancel, there's a possibility you may not appear in the credits for the remaining videos that launch between your cancellation date and the expiry of your access.
Why is this (quite minor) change happening? Well, it's a bit complicated.
A few weeks ago a patron notified us that they had been left off the credits of a particular episode, and after some digging, it turns out there's a bit of weirdness relating to how Patreon generates the list of members for each tier.
Basically, if someone is a member of a tier and cancels their subscription, Patreon immediately starts counting them as a 'free' member, rather than someone who is still a member of that particular tier, even if their membership has not yet expired.
For example, someone might join the Extended Episodes tier for a month, starting on April 17th, and cancel to avoid the automatic monthly charge. Patreon therefore immediately sees them as a free member, not a member of the Extended Episodes tier, despite the fact that they've paid up-front, and their access and perks won't expire until the 17th of May.
This means that each week, when we generate the list of members for the tiers to populate the credits, it may not include people who are still members, but have 'cancelled' (as Patreon sees it) because they've cancelled the automatically monthly charge.
Having been in touch with a few other creators and Patreon support, it turns out that this system of categorisation is basically completely inflexible, and there's not really a way around it. We did experiment with cross-referencing a list of cancelled and free members with the members of the Extended Episodes tier, but that required working out the length of their membership in months by manually looking at their joining and cancellation date, and dividing it by their lifetime pledge amount and...you can probably see why this became difficult.
It's very frustrating, and hopefully Patreon changes its system at some point. We hope this all makes sense, and you can understand the reasons for the change.
Apparently Patreon used to have a much more robust system for tracking members available to creators, but that system was (as a friend of ours put it) 'Fisher Price-d' a few years ago. Fingers crossed it changes back, and if it does, we'll let you know again.
Cheers,

Annoying but entirely understandable. We can't do more than the systems we work with let us. I work in tech support so I know that very well. I hope Patreon builds a better system for it since this is a bit naff on their end
