I'm going to sound a tad elitist here, and I don't want to, but I kind of feel like Silo would never have worked on something like Netflix, because I think it's too challenging a show for the "average" Netflix viewer.
I know, I know. But really, I say this not because I think of myself as somehow vastly superior to the "common viewer," it's just that, when this show was airing, I read a lot of comments online from people who said it moved too slowly, or was too ponderous for their taste. Particularly with Season 2, people said this. And for the life of me, I can't understand what these folks were on about, because, if anything, Season 2 seemed to me to have *more* tension, *more* mystery, *more* great performances and unforgettable scenes. But I think, for whatever reason, it's just not a show for everyone.
Like other acclaimed shows I have enjoyed (and I believe Mary has as well) -- The Expanse, The Wire, even Severance to some extent -- Silo comes with deep and complex lore that you have to sort of absorb along the way. The world building is not spoon fed to you, and to get the most out of the show, you really need to watch it with rapt attention. It's not the kind of show you can watch while cooking dinner or folding your laundry or scrolling through Tik-Tok videos on your phone, and I think some people just don't have the attention span for it.
And I think Apple TV takes a certain pride in airing (and paying for!) "prestige" shows like this, even though they can cost quite a bit to make. An outfit like Netflix or even Prime Video would probably not be willing to fund something on this scale (watch some of the "making of" videos on YouTube if you want to get an idea of how ridiculously costly this show must be to make).
But I agree, in a just, sane world, shows like this would be WAY bigger than they are. I'm just not sure this world is just, or sane, enough for that to be true.

Yeah, like you said at the end of the episode people are missing on Apple Tv Shows. Severence got many reactors but show like Silo or Foundations are still hidden gems to the general public. If those 2 shows were on Netflix or Prime, they would have very high rating and view time
