MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING: PART ONE Full Length REACTION!

Comments

I agree with your hypothesis on Elsa. When you look at the scene there's a knife in her but no blood on her clothes or the steps and than they just blow by it with zero closure. Don't think they would do that with a recurring character. It fits the narrative that someone had to die and they provided that. Its classic IMF strategy.

While I haven't gotten a chance to watch the reaction yet, I take it from the comments you weren't pleased about the way they handled Ilsa. Let me just say that coming from a long-time M.I. fan such as myself, I was disappointed in it too. It felt lazy in a way that I didn't expect from Christopher McQuarrie. One of the most bad-ass character discarded in a meaningless, silly fight with no consequences. In the meantime, the entire movie was set up as a "meet cute" between Ethan and a new love interest. This would've been fine if it were the first entry in a new series. But it's the seventh movie in a series with already established characters and lore. And so when they finally got rid of Ilsa, it felt cynically convenient. "Well, now that the old ball and chain is gone, we can really enjoy the enemies-to-lovers trope that will carry on for the majority of the runtime!"
