It's Koreanized 'some' which is short for 'something' which expresses that there is "something" between two people. It's a term that refers to the stage before two people start dating and make their relationship official. In other words, it's a relationship between two people that are more intimate than just a friendship, but not quite lovers. So I don't think she used the wrong word because she did think something was going on between them but I think the translation is wrong since 'fling' means something completely different in English lol.
