i 100% standby on idols SHOULD know how to sing. i get that each members don't have to be the best or greatest singers but you HAVE to know how to sing. like you are training to be an idol, yes but being an idol means you know how to sing and dance. this is the most standard skill that an idol should possess. yes, you can't be great at everything understandable but not knowing how to sing is a big no because you're a singer. being in an idol group, there are diff positions you can take, main vocal, lead vocal, main dancer, lead dancer, main rapper, sub rapper, visual etc. yes you have to focus on one position that you're in but i do believe that an idol should not just know how to do one position. like you can't just be good and know how to sing without knowing how to dance and vice versa. particularly singing and dancing is the basic skill one idol should have. so they at least should know how to do both, they don't have to be great at both (ofc a plus if you're great at both). so my point is you can't be an idol if you just know one thing, you have to know how to do everything, because you're a performer, singer, an idol. what good is the dancing skills if you can't sing right? like you're a singer not just a dancer and vice versa. the same thing goes with visual position like yes face is a great selling factor but what's the use of having a great visual if you don't know how to perform right? you should've just become a model then. this is what my biggest issue when it comes to survival group shows and when audience are part of the voting process. because when netizens are involved in voting, it will all comes down to popularity and visual and not talent like i get that they want to choose the most attractive one, but literally choosing someone who can't even sing out of all the good trainees who can do a lot more is just not it. like why? i don't understand that so much. (not saying this to this group but like in general) yes, potential i see that but i mean there's a lot who's already good at everything, really talented but it's sad to see them not getting a chance and what they deserve just because they're more popular than the other.
