Apaches, Conquistadors, & The Camp Grant Massacre

Greetings Gamers,

In this video I will discuss briefly the Spanish influence on the "wild west" as well as the Camp Grant Massacre. The goal with this video was to establish just how widespread violence, raiding, and enslavement was in this part of the world. Also, to show how the cyclical nature of violence enforces itself.

In the next video, I will share my "capital e" essay, or rather, what it's turned into. It's going to get dark and personal.

I find myself, this summer, struggling to justify our (and consequently my own) continued existence. I have lost any and all hope in human behavior, judgement, and decency. By the end of Yeehaw Summer I hope to have rejoined the human race, although at THIS point in Yeehaw Summer, I wonder if I should even try.

I hope you're doing well, and words cannot express how much I appreciate your support in this time.

I'll see you in a few weeks,

DJ "Cowboy Quixote" Peach Cobbler

Old video so you might not see this but I’m curious, I just finished reading Blood Meridian and after watching Wendigoons analysis about it as well he mentioned that it is loosely based off of Samuel Chamberlain’s “my confessions”. Have you read either and what are your thoughts?

To love yourself you have to at least attempt to love others. But you struggle with it. You must try to forgive unforgivable things. You can't build anything on hate yet it's so hard to love. That was my take on it

cub-square

Ah, now this is the kind of edutaining, 4-alarm content I remember from before, the Rome stuff, the Aztec stuff, I'd kill for another game review as deep as the Scorn review ... But hey, go where inspiration takes you DJ

kostoglotov

i have to admit, the new format is much more sobering for serious topics. but i do so greatly miss the funny pie people.

The massacre at camp grant reminded me a lot of the situation in early america on the east coast. Some people like John Eliot wanted to integrate the natives, coexist, work together, and did quite well in their efforts. But raids and conflict with other indian tribes created so much tension and mistrust between the settlers and the natives that it fell apart. It's actually really shocking how similar the two situations are, like it's the same situation 200 years apart halfway across the continent

When one is touched in the head, we often try to learn our way INTO sanity, only to find we learned our way right out of it. The only lesson that must be learned, is that you have to love yourself with the compassion and kindness that you wish the world contained.

I know it's definately not a primary source, but have you heard of "Bastion" by supergiant games? It's certainly not as historically heavy as you've been going lately, and it certainly has a more hopeful ending than real life, but it might be interesting to you, if you haven't heard its name 1 million times already lol.

Peak video, as always, Cobb. Forgive me, I've been following the narrative of the recent videos; the ending of this one is lost on me a bit. Would someone clarify what he means by "learning to forgive people [& the circumstances they put you in]. My problem wasn't existing; it was existing as a human."? My 4hr sleep brain would appreciate it, cheers. Edit: typos

Colton Cutchens

As a Tucson native… yeah there’s no good way to finish this statement. Yikes. Awesome work

YouSunuvaMitch

One of your best videos ever, up there with the mad god. thank you cobby

Samuel Olson

Great video as always, of course. Hype for the big essay. My autism jumped out first—my b

I hate to be that person but are you familiar with Gnosticism at all? I feel like it’d vibe pretty well with your view of the world. Folks: god is real, and he’s a fuckin asshole https://youtu.be/22kxcbN8B_A?si=1P1YmkllrSZ3mFrN

I don't think there's any justification for anything to exist other than the justification imposed by it. America exists and the justification is the force in which it asserts its existence. Capitalism exists because it is justified by its forceful existence. Is this might makes right? Yeah, in a roundabout sense. But what else is there? Everything else is pseudointellectual larp. That which exists must justify its existence through its continued forceful existence. Simple as.

As a fellow gamer I think I’ll dive into my own internal Apache problems and learn to understand their situation and try to forgive their misdoings

Matt the cobbler

World brought us upon itself. We were kicked into existence without any justification apart the fact that circumstances themselves willed us into it to begin with. And the rest is just a chain reaction of our own reactions to the world we found ourselves in. Humanity, and in turn, each one of us is a reflection of what universe fundamentally is. So there is no need to justify our existence, only to witness it.

Kuma4

Is that the harspace OST there at the end? I swear that's hardspace

Lanny

Thank you as always Cobbler, we'll be with you along the ride for Yeehaw Summer all the way - The Mosquitos

Elia Giulio

So good I upgraded my membership. Wish I could contribute more, but we live in a society

Matt Barrett

Is YouTube throttling your viewership? Seems like it's not getting as many people as usual.

Frixworks

There is nothing but to try.

Gil the Gilded Dragon

Thank you, you give me now the strength to film outside again. You wouldn’t happen to be working with the mosquitos?

DJ Peach Cobbler

Man, this is so fucking depressing

Fluffer

I wrote like two heartfelt comments but both failed to load and I forgot to copy them so. Yeah. Thank you Cobbler. Your soul is beutiful. Thank you for being a huge part of what I am.

cub-square

I wonder if he ever read the gulag archipelago or ordinary men, if the books he read has taken him to this place I would not recommend reading. It’s toll weigh even the soul when done.

MO PO

I doubled my membership contribution. You’re an artist bro. I know $20 doesn’t make me a Medici supporting Picasso, but you haven’t carved the Sistine chapel either. So we all have some work to do.

Tak Kovacs

As a wise guy said one day " to die for your ideals ,ok, but by a slow death." Life is for some our only luxury, there is no good reason to cut it short

esteban albo

That is a hell of a quote to end the video on!

"I find myself, this summer, struggling to justify our (and consequently my own) continued existence. I have lost any and all hope in human behavior, judgement, and decency. By the end of Yeehaw Summer I hope to have rejoined the human race, although at THIS point in Yeehaw Summer, I wonder if I should even try." I, too, struggle with this everyday. Why care about anything when everything since to go into the shitter at a faster rate with every new day? Is anything worth the effort any more? Should I, instead, do fuck all with my limited time on this earth since everything seems irrelevant, useless or pointless? Personally, I chose to free myself from almost any human interaction that goes through social media of any kind. This simple step alone, of interacting only through "direct" means to people, changes a lot in how you may perceive the world. Second, I decided that I would do thing I believe in, even if it might not change anything in the grand scheme of things. I want to leave the world a better place in my own, small, ways. And that's all you can do really, If you're not a politician/spawn of Satan (and why would you want to be a psychopatic pedophile in the first place?). Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Another cobbler classic

BallmanFart

thank you

Evan Heaslip

Not good at words of encouragement, but I think best keep going since you've already started. Besides, all the hoes thirsty for yeehaw-history and the kind that slaps would be miserable. Do it for the hoes. Tell us a story, Dandelion..

Espina

Keep on keeping on Cobbler. Excited for this next installment of yeehaw summer
