Hardware vs Software: Sample Rate Reduction & Pitch Interpolation

I just really wanted to know what was going on with sample rates & pitch interpolation and anti-aliasing. Was there any differences in the techniques? How did the software compare to the hardware? π
I feel like I can put this one to bed now! Decimort 2 is fantastic and comes very close for the sample rate reduction technique.
The pitch interpolation method is wildly different from sampler to sampler with some being very similar to the sample rate method and others sounding completely different.
