Seamus, after work π 2k
Added 2024-09-03 17:00:11 +0000 UTCit's saturday night, 2am, the bars are closing, people crowding the streets. but in an alleyway just out of sight (barely) Seamus is waiting for the flirty busboy to come out and meet him and blow off a little steam...
I really enjoyed working on this one! the setting, the lighting, and all the details of the characters were a blast to figure out. I intentionally placed the busboy in deep shadow - I didn't want the BJ action to take over the whole piece, but also, I thought it would emphasize his anonymity, and the way Seamus is trying to view this whole transaction as something throwaway, that doesn't matter and he doesn't need to own up to. he's very excited and wants it bad, but at least for now... for him, this belongs in the dark. I think the busboy doesn't mind. just hope his jaw makes it out of this alright π

I was really trying hard to hit those exact story notes with what I was painting. I think it's so fun to try to get across some tension and character development, while also making a (hopefully) sexy/erotic scene. I do like the sense of dark, shadowy intimacy here. In a way it's distorted, since Seamus feels no intimacy at all with the busboy, and yet... this is such a secret and erotically charged act for him that it means all that much more for us to catch a glimpse.

I think so too. this poor busboy (ok, not "poor" at all considering he's having the time of his life imo) is so anonymous in Seamus's mind. but you know there are some intrusive thoughts overtaking things... wonder if it has anything to do with his home situation.

The lighting is fabulous and I love the choice to put the 'action' in shadow like that, and along with Seamus' well lit expression, it really pushes how illicit he feels this interaction is (not that I expect him to dwell too much on the reasons he feels that way about it). The way your art has progressed is amazing, I've always felt like your environments and scenes are evocative and draw you in to their reality, but I really feel like we're intruding on something kind of, intimate, when looking at this piece, like we're the cause for Seamus' anxious glance.
