Back from Gary Con!

Taking part in both Founders & Legends and Gary Con meant I spent about 10 days in Wisconsin. It was a lovely time, in part because I spent about 40 hours playing TTRPGs and another 6 or so in panels.

Still working away on the new game. This week, here's my take on the burglar class. To make up for the missed week, I'll have another class up shortly.

It's a classic rogue for sure, perfect for recruiting from a halfling hole to take into a dungeon. Pretty solid. Gives thugs and other non-dexterity characters a chance to work too, since it's now unhooked for dexterity a bit more. One thing that I don't see a whole lot which this class does is change weapon damage dice. I had assumed it generally doesn't come up so new equipment wasn't useless for certain classes, since I didn't see it a whole lot. I think it's fine to push classes towards certain weapons, just curious about design thoughts on that though. Distracting Ruse I like the concept of a lot. Does Dodge and Feint mean they must pick a target friendly to that creature if that's the only other one available? i.e. you cause them to hit their friend? Backstab is useable with all weapons if I'm reading it right. I've always wondered if there's a better way to phrase it though, since there's always the problem with things like that where it seems like it's not supposed to work by the title, but the rules say otherwise. e.g. "Sneak Attack" doesn't care if you're sneaking really. It's a nitpick because I only really see it catch new players, but just curious if you've thought about that or if it's really too minor to care about.

I was thinking that a scout might need more survivability, in case they get caught or blow a check. We'll see how it holds up, though. Glad you liked the adventure! It's the prototype/test bed for what I'm building here. Plus, splitting the party and dousing torches is always fun.

It was great to roll some dice together again at Gary Con, Mike! I really loved the adventure setting and portal mechanics. It really made a small dungeon feel much bigger and more complex AND it meant that previously explored rooms came back into play sometimes. Burglar looks interesting, and REALLY like the idea of background schemes adding flavor and mechanical benefits for the style of Burglar your character is. The Scout option seems like the odd one out though. intuitively I thought it was going to have a Stealth bonus since Scouts often sneak ahead.
