Note that "self insert" is a term for a character in a work that represents the author. People in the anime community tend to misuse the term to describe a character who they think lacks interesting characterization. That said, Ritsuka has had a personality since the very first chapter. If it was truly a player insert character, it would let me do things I would want to do. Like shit on Carmilla and praise Elizabeth. Let me call Raikou one of the most disgusting creatures I've ever seen instead of praising her "beauty".
