Thank you for that clarification! *sigh* I’ll be talking about all these “clarifications” and theories in the intro of episode 17. I seriously would read an old man yaoi doujinshi with Luomen and this one eunuch in a HEARTBEAT! That is a great point about the written message and that communication not being noticed or detected by just anyone…at least, unless Jinshi gets the servant girls all literate - that would put a damper on such plans! Which we’ve talked about being one of his goals. Lakan describing his strategy like a chess or go game - I love it! After season 1 I just love Lakan being back in this and Ah-Duo showing up as well! The family is gathering!! Yes, for all the anime team makes “obvious” to us detail-wise, sometimes, I love this turn around they did! It got me! If I didn’t support Jinshi x MaoMao so hardcore, it would be TEMPTING to ship MaoMao with SuiRei - I just don’t want to do that to Jinshi; he has it rough enough! 😛 And I’m super happy that MaoMao has Luomen to raise her – Lakan is terrifying ENOUGH…having MaoMao be a little more reserved or grounded is not a bad thing! 😛Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!

2025-05-03 17:39:21 +0000 UTCFor how I remember how to pronounce Basen's name: think of how a sheep goes "baa" 🤣 You are correct that the show has not made the distinction on if the three sisters at the Jade Pavilion are from a family of noble standing. It's only been said that they are from the same area as Consort Gyokuyou and the others. We do know, with Haku-u's (the eldest) slip-up on calling Consort Gyokuyou just by her name and with no title, that they are very close to Consort Gyokuyou. Agreed! Give me my old man yaoi 🥰 Especially in the form of old friends reconnecting after a long separation 😍 I love, even if it is just Maomao's conjecture, the detail of Shenluu giving the servant girl a written note to pass to Lady Shin. Given what we've already been told about the education standards/abilities of the servant girls in the Imperial Palace a written note is the perfect way to pass on such information as the messenger would be unable to actually know what the message says. Lakan talking about the new design of the feifa creating a change in warfare as they know it really shows him as the strategist he is. Even the way he describes it ("It would allow for more tightly packed formations, and make travel easier") is also the way you'd describe movements of the pieces in go or xiangqi. Great way to show off his strategic mind be it in the form of games or actual physical battles. I was highly anticipating your reaction to not only the return of Lakan this episode but also Lady Ah-Duo! 🥰🤣 I think the anime did a fantastic job for any anime onlies on being deceived that Lady Ah-Duo was actually Jinshi. Definite props to them for that. Romania: Does that make Maomao Deadpool? A single reference just tempting me to ship Maomao and Suirei 🤣 Totally agree that Luomen helps somewhat corral Maomao's Lakan side. She definitely is much more shrewd than Luomen which I think can be attributed to both her parents (given how Fengxian was well known for how good a go player she was), but there is the possibility of her shrewdness also coming from having been raised by the courtesans and learning from the Madam of Verdigris House as well. I do love to see Maomao and Luomen together like this because we can more easily see the parts of Maomao that is like her Dad, but also the parts of her that take after Lakan.

I believe that MaoMao as a bored genius chaos way theory so much! I mean…everyone told me that everything meant FengXian died in season 1…*sigh* but guess we’ll see! Thanks for the comment!

2025-05-02 12:37:44 +0000 UTCLuoman is so nice and this episode definitely made me like him more. He reminds me of Xie Lian. Definitely the ideal parent for troubled kids. I also want the tragic old man yaoi. People in fandom like making alternative universes where Lakan raised Mao Mao… usually they come to the conclusion that Mao Mao would be evil. Not in a shin or that other concubine who died way, but in a bored genius that causes chaos way. I’m curious to see if Feng Xin is alive.
