Her fiancé, Kouichi, who was with her during the kidnapping, lost an eye trying to protect and save her. Maya was then raped and experimented on by her kidnappers from Dahan's infamous Kunlunfang Institute (a Modern Magic research Center). After she was rescued, Yotsuba Genzou (Maya and Miyas Father) ordered Miya to use her unique magic on Maya to separate the emotions from the memories of the atrocities she had suffered through, for fear that they would destroy her. Unable to only target the specific memorys of the Incident, Miya ends up removing the emotions from all of the memories she had experienced for the past twelve years. As a result, Maya claimed that Miya had killed her, as experiences are what make up a person and their personality. She also lost the ability to procreate due to the experiments, and her betrothal and relationship with Kouichi were called off (due to the loss of her emotional bonds as well as her inability to bear children). Maya stayed single and never married. Unwilling to let the defilement of his daughter go, Yotsuba Genzou is supported by the entire Yotsuba Clan to go to war with the organization behind this incident. After everything was over, 30 members of the Yotsuba clan had died. On the other hand, the Dahan Government and the leading organization in magical research in Asia, the Kunlunfang Institute, which was responsible for the kidnapping, had lost approximately 4000 People: cabinet ministers, high class bureaucrats, officers, magicians and researchers were all assassinated and their commanding core was destroyed. Merely 30 people from the Yotsuba clan effectively obliterated the Dahan Government and wiped out all of their research on magic. Dahan then internally collapsed 1 1/2 years later in February of 2064, leading to the Great Asia Union unifying Asia. This also marked the end of WWIII. After the end of World War III, to those who knew the truth about what happened to Dahan, the Yotsuba name became synonymous with the word "Untouchable", instilling fear in everyone who knew about it. Dahan was a portion of the southern half of China that quickly after the start of World War III was able to break away and establish itself as an independent nation apart from the Great Asian Union. It could stand toe to toe against the Great Asian Union despite inferior Ressources thanks to the Kunlunfang Institute (it was the nexus of all Modern Magic research in China before Asia's dissolution into North and South). which attached itself to Dahan when it became an independent country, thus causing the Great Asian Union to lose almost all of its expertise in Modern Magic.
