Name of the Ash Story
Added 2024-07-10 19:43:47 +0000 UTCThe Ash story will be released to Royal Road soon (you will all see the chapters first). I need to decide on the name and there are three main candidates that have survived my overthinking. I want to mention that "Path of Ash" and "Legacy of Ash" already exist and I don't want to use them.
Eventually, this story will end up on Amazon, and in RR fashion, each book doesn't have its own name. The series name is used and a number is added. I plan on doing the same. So whatever is chosen is how the series will be referenced.

2024-07-12 22:00:12 +0000 UTCThank you everyone for spending your valuable time on this. I have spent hours thinking everything through and expanding the scope of what I want Ash's story to show. I'll reveal the new name in tonight's update.

2024-07-12 08:42:52 +0000 UTCI hear you, but I hope they are at least Axioms throughout the series. Unless there’s even something better!

2024-07-11 04:16:41 +0000 UTCI sent a list to AFK today and had both The Second Axiom and The Rise of Ash in my list! So I like them both, however... I remembered right after that Ash isn't the second axiom, he's the third (Pen, Ruwen, Ash), so I changed it to The Last Axiom or The Final Axiom.
BRB
2024-07-11 02:39:35 +0000 UTCYeah, using Axiom seems to forward, who says they stay one throughout the series. Also "Prophecy of Ash" is a phenomenal suggestion.

2024-07-11 01:15:47 +0000 UTCProphecy of Ash? Otherwise heritage and then system are my votes And i like the cycle of ash thing too I do not think Axiom needs to be used

2024-07-10 23:45:39 +0000 UTCI think "Cycle of Ash" might be good, ash trees can symbolize rebirth and that's a big part of hinduism, where 7 chakras come from, as far as I'm aware

2024-07-10 21:57:50 +0000 UTCSo, this makes me think of when I first saw "Divine Apostasy." I know I didn't read the series for a long time because I kept saying: "How can an Apostasy be divine? Doesn't make any sense at all! It can't be any good. " Then I'd move on to another series. Until I saw the popularity of the series going up rapidly. That was when I decided to read a review, then try the first book, then the second, and the rest is history. I only say all this to say that "System of Ash," or any of the names above gives me the same feeling I first got with "Divine Apostasy." The name is obviously a great name - but you'll only know that after you read the series, not before. If that's what you're going for, then I vote for "System of Ash." Honestly, though, I preferred the style for the name of the books in the series better. For example, "Shade's First Rule" reminded me of "Wizard's First Rule," from the Sword of Truth series that did very well. In fact, that name helped me read the first book. "The Second Betrayal" also made me want to find out exactly what that betrayal may have been, and so forth. The individual books' names are much more motivating than the series' name. Although I can simply vote above and leave it at that, I would suggest that you may want to ignore everything we say and chose a name for the series using the same logic you used for naming each individual book. You did a great job with those. That's one idea, or you can capitalize on the readership you already have from the Divine Apostasy series and call this series something like: "The Second Axiom," or "The Rise of Ash" - which harks back to Pen's words, that the first Axiom will give rise to Ash. You already have all that readership; why not throw them a bone? You know they'll immediately want to know about this 'rise of Ash' they've heard so much about. Giving a name like: "System of Ash" or any of the options above means you are kind of starting to gather readership again from scratch for the new series (not really because of us, but for new readership, that's probably true), but why do that? If you have a good reason, great! But if you don't, then I suggest you connect both series in a way that'll be a little more obvious to fans of your work. It's only my two cents's worth. I hope it helps even a little. P.S: So, I gave it some more thought. Have you noticed that in our genre, there's a lot of "System of" books? I don't know what occurs to you when you see those, but when I do, I authomatically place the book/series in one of two buckets: Either I think it's an apocalypse type book, like Tao Wong's System Apocalypse series, or I think it's a "system" type book like "System reboot" and all those other system series. There's nothing actually wrong with this, except that I noticed in myself that I have developed "system" fatigue. What I mean is this - when I am looking for a new series, and I see the word "system" in the title, I want to keep looking because I'm trying to find something new. Something I've never read before. New ideas. I know I miss out on some good series, but it's more an emotional reaction than a logical one. So, I don't know if I'm alone on that ledge, which would be great for the genre, but if I'm not, then I'd suggest a name that doesn't have "system" in the title for the above reason. Anyway. Just thought to include that bit. Thanks.
Joe
2024-07-10 21:53:10 +0000 UTCThe system of Ash sounds good but doesn’t make sense to the story unless he becomes a God and gives everyone system access which would be really impressive if you can do that then change my vote from the heritage one to the system one

2024-07-10 21:02:38 +0000 UTCThat could work with each "- of ash" being the main chakra of that book. Assuming things work that way, though it does mean there is a maximum of 8 books. 1 for each chakra and aura

2024-07-10 20:07:23 +0000 UTCObviously you need to do the popular naming convention of describing the entire series in the title. As such I suggest "A martial arts master finds himself granted a system and goes dungeon delving in the great pyramids."
