January 4, 2020 - Update
Added 2020-01-04 09:06:23 +0000 UTCHello from the New Year! I'll refrain from any 2020 jokes since they are already irritating me. In the past, I would spend a decent amount of time thinking about my resolutions for the new year. In the last couple of years, I haven't, since life was too busy. This year, I took some time to think specifically about what I want my writing year to look like.
I will finish the draft of The Second Betrayal today. I plan to get it through all its quality control and out to everyone in early to mid-February (I'll release the remaining chapters here before it goes into KU).
This book took longer than I'd wanted. My intent had been to release shorter books more often. Instead, this book ended up being 20% longer than book one and taking three months longer to write than I'd planned. I know as a reader, the book-length is great. But from a business perspective, the added time isn't good. Because I don't write full time, this compounds the business issue. I need to find a better balance between releases and length.
I'll immediately start on book three once the edits for two are done. I would love to release books 3, 4, and 5 this year as well, but I think that is very optimistic. But, goals are there to stretch you, so that is what I'll plan.
Regardless of all that, 2019 was a year of transition for me. I left my literary agent and focused on indie publishing instead of traditional. I wrote a book in a genre I love and poured all my favorite things into it. It is the type of series I would want to read.
I'm thankful that there are others that feel the same. You all make a huge difference to me.
Thank you.
I've opened up chapters 38, 39, and 40 to Harvesters, and added chapters 41 and 42 for Step Masters and above.
Have a great week and Happy New Year!
