November 16, 2019 - Update
Added 2019-11-16 04:59:51 +0000 UTCHappy weekend! I have a full day tomorrow, and I didn't want to make everyone wait on me, so I'm dropping some chapters tonight.
I continue to worry about pacing as we all dive deeper into this world. From the reviews on Shade's First Rule, I know that a few people have read the book and learned it isn't the flavor of LitRPG that they like. Some like harem, some OP protagonists, some like a skilled character right from the beginning, and some want constant fighting or an instant genius with no character development needed.
None of those flavors are wrong, but they do offer much different experiences. This story is not for everyone. It has a more realistic progression. A teenager whose life goes sideways is not going to deal with everything well or the right way. My favorite series are where the main character struggles in the beginning because it makes the payoff in later books so much more satisfying.
I prefer steak dinners, not potato chips (actually I love potato chips, but I hope you get my meaning) when it comes to books. Regardless, I still worry about if I'm striking the right balance. All I can do is trust myself. Eventually, the readers who like steak dinners (now I'm hungry) will find these books, and will hopefully love reading them. I guess, like everything else, time will tell.
I opened up Chapters 21 and 22 to Harvesters and added Chapters 23, 24, and 25 for Step Masters.
