Somewhere In Time (1980) - Full Reaction

Holy moly how was that so steamy without being steamy at all haha? It was a true romance, and even though I am still unsure how I felt about the ending, they were stunning to watch and I believed!! I'm liking these Christopher Reeve movies, what are some other good movies of his that I might be missing out on? Also, what are some of your favorite time travel movies? Maybe we do a time travel poll in the future? Hope you enjoy the reaction!

Somewhere In Time (1980) - Full Reaction

Comments

I have always loved this movie. had to wait to watch it again for today Valentines day 2025. I have seen this movie about 12 times and I never get tired of it. I have recommend to many that I know like a love story. It is not well know, due to the fact that critics did not like it, but everyone I know who has seen it has loved it.

John A

Love this movie! Had movie nights with this movie with all my female friends and family. Movie night = sniffle, sniffle fest... :-)

TeenyStudio Flicks

This was one of my moms favorites. She had the soundtrack on cassette and played in on long road trips. It is a good film. Christopher Reeve was great in a movie w/ Michael Keaton and Gina Davis called Speechless. He was hilarious in it.

Ryan Towell

Foggy mountain breakdown

Craig Russell

Ah yes Noises Off (1992), I seem to remember Nicollette Sheridan in white lingerie. That's all I can remember. Were other people in it too?

Michael Threapleton

Yes, this is a classic example of when parts of a classical piece are so overplayed they almost become a parody of themselves. Others that come to mind are Rossini's Guillaume Tell Overture, Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Chopin's Marche Funèbre, and Orff's O Fortuna. Add your "favorites" here.

Michael Threapleton

Yeah... thanks 😊😊🥰🥰 I'm so grateful. A reaction from Cassie to this film will easy be like on top 5 of her videos (I'm serious). And the first who ever does a reaction of this film, and the first of a swedish movie at all. Oh oh... there have been reactions to "Let the right one in"

Björn Karlsson

Also, did you notice the song that they both listened to, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Sergei Rachmaninoff, was the same song Bill Murray played in Groundhog Day.

Larry Darrell

You were very kind in your words at the end, but your long silence into the credits said it all. I love Time-Travel movies and I love Romances, but this is not a favorite film of mine. This was the 2nd time I've watched this film, and reading some of the comments, I thought maybe I missed something. I didn't. The Re-Watch rating on this one is pretty low. I suspect you might agree.

Larry Darrell

Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) should then naturally be followed by the sine qua non of antiwar films, Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun (1971). Metallica fans, you're welcome. After this challenging brace the perfect palate cleanser would be Lukas Moodysson's Show Me Love (1998). See what I did for you there Bjorn?

Michael Threapleton

She'll need the jumbo box of tissues for Always (1989).

Michael Threapleton

So having read through this entire thread, it looks like we are all in agreement that the next time travel movie will be Slaughterhouse-Five (1972).

Michael Threapleton

Deathtrap is an outstanding movie. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes.

softshoes

Also....you can catch Jane Seymour as Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. This was an early 90's TV series that ran for 6 seasons and spawned 2 TV movies (yeah those were a thing).

Larry Johnston

Truly enjoy sharing some of my favorite movies through your "new" eyes. Can't believe that was SO long ago...I was newly married and before I had children. My wife was infatuated with Christopher Reeve and I became very much the same with Jane Seymour after this. We watched this several times over our 18 years of marriage. As to your questioning as to whether the hotel is a real place....it is indeed. My wife and I spent a night there a couple years after watching the movie and most of the scenes in the movie were actually filmed there and a small playhouse in town. It IS much the same as in the movie and the time period. The Grand Hotel is located on Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Island between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan in Lake Huron. An interesting note is that no cars are allowed on the island which adds to that setting with horse drawn carriages and bicycles being the norm. Hope you get a chance as I'm sure it will make your romantic heart full as you'll HAVE to watch the movie again after having actually been there.

Larry Johnston

True. He cheated on his long time girlfriend, with whom he had a son in late 1979, to be with Seymour. Seymour confirmed their relationship earlier this year. Meanwhile, Reeves had another child with his girlfriend before they ultimately broke up in the late 1980s. Heartwarming Hollywood love story.

Just Plain Bob

Cassie. im so glad you enjoyed Somewhere in Time. Its one of my favorites along with the Soundtrack. Also check out the movie Always with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter. Another good movie

Jack Donner

Doesn't make much sense to me, since he knew all along that he had traveled back in time to see her. The penny simply reminded him of something that he already knew.

Nathan Bishop

It wasn't really suicide. People just sometimes lose the will to live after losing people that are very important to them. Husbands and wives will often die shortly after their spouses due to this phenomenon.

Nathan Bishop

The reason that the love scenes seemed so real is that Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour were actually in love while filming this movie.

Nathan Bishop

After the accident that paralyzed him, Reeve filmed a TV remake of "Rear Window." It's very similar to the original while being its own movie as well.

Panel By Panel with Tom Meaney

Also Starman is a great romantic sci-fi starring Jeff Bridges

Odd Thomas

Cassie, I think you would really enjoy Romancing The Stone; great 80s romance/adventure with Michael Douglas!

Odd Thomas

Oh, I almost forgot. There's an older romantic zorro-ish movie called The Scarlet Pimpernel with Jane Seymour and a very young Ian McKellen (Gandalf). It may be hard to find but if you can, I feel it's worth it.

3dbadboy1

Time Cop is a solid pick. Van Damne with a grief mullet and Ferris Bueller's girlfriend, I mean come on.

Christopher Smith

Everything ages poorly ultimately.

Stick Figure Studios

I noticed that too.

Stick Figure Studios

With the great David Warner who just recently passed away.

Stick Figure Studios

Monsignor (1982), The Bostonians (1984), Street Smart (also Morgan Freeman's first big role 1987) and Noises Off (1992) for sheer goofy fun. Chris always picked left of centre indie-sensibility movies outside of the Superman franchise. He reminds me of Daniel Radcliffe in this way. Megastars, but they both liked meatier acting challenges.

Kent Theaker

As far as time travel movies that as far as I know Cassie hasn't seen yet I'd recommend (no particular order) X-Men Days of Future Past, Star Trek IV the Voyage Home, Looper and Happy Death Day. I remember liking Time Cop as a kid but haven't seen it in forever it seems.

Shawn Kildal

A good time travel movie is “Time After Time” (1979)

Kevin Townsend

One thing I've always noticed with Cassie is that she is usually so good at remembering character names in the movies she reacts too. It was surprising to me that she kept calling Elise's controlling manager "Arthur"

Shawn Kildal

This movie has aged poorly. One of my favorite Reeve's film is Noises off...

Pepe M

If you’re gonna do mock product placement jokes, you really need to work on your winking! 😉 Nice reaction Cassie! I wasn’t sure if I had seen this movie or not. I had not. Definitely right up your alley. You deserve a nice romance flick after the trauma that was Poltergeist. Charming movie. Jane Seymour was quite beautiful. But that part when the manager’s thugs jumped Richard made me laugh! 😂 Wasn’t really feeling the ending either. I was hoping he’d go talk to the Professor. But then I realized the professor probably had a similar experience. And was broken-hearted himself. That’s why he said he was in no hurry to ever try doing it again. Anyways, I enjoyed your reaction. Bring on MI4!

Robert da Spruce

I was a big ball of sobs watching this one. Did anyone else catch William H Macy in the opening scene? The older Elise walks right by him. I also like Reeve in Deathtrap (1982) with Michael Caine.

Ian Cano

Yes this is Mackinaw island and the Grand Hotel in Michigan. It’s technically on Lake Huron since it is on the east side of the Mackinaw bridge (Lake Michigan on the other side). Cassie needs to add this gorgeous vacation spot to her list of movie locations (Rocky steps).

Peter Guertin

In the series finale of Quantum Leap, Al goes back in time to be with the woman he loved. In fact, I'm convinced that the writers of Endgame got the idea for what to do with Steve Rogers from that Quantum Leap episode (at least subconsciously). [And Back to the Future 3 has a spin on this pattern. Doc unwittingly went back in time and found the woman he loves. He eventually stays back in time to be with her.]

WastedPo

Terminator- Kyle Reese goes back in time to be with the one he loves. Superman- Superman goes back in time to be with the one he loves. Somewhere In Time- Richard goes back in time to be with the one he loves.  Avengers Endgame- Steve goes back in time to be the the one he loves.  Can anyone add to this list?

London Davis

I have seen this movie about 10 times ever since a year or two after it was produced. Romance movies for the sake of romance usually don't move me very much. This movie has been major exception for me. My eyes water in several scenes of the movie every time I watch it. The music is a major contributor. Plus, one reason the chemistry of Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour is off the chart is because they fell "madly in love" as Jane Seymour put it. There is a convention where Jane Seymour mentioned this only months ago. It's on YouTube. She said they were both single at the time. They also kept it to themselves. Christopher Reeve had a small plane there on Mackinac Island, and they would sneak off at night, and he would take her on plane rides. They Somewhere in Time gatherings at the Grand Hotel every year. Christopher Reeve attended himself both before his accident, and after his accident as has Jane Seymour. There is a clip on YouTube of them there at the same time after Christopher's accident, and she is holding the microphone for him while he speaks. A lot of them like this movie as well as women. Example: The late General Colin Powell shared with Jane Seymour that it was his favorite movie. I believe it may be mine as well. Titanic is a close second. Jane Seymour was breathtakingly beautiful in the movie, and at her present age of 71, she still looks amazing. She seems very genuine and sweet as well. The late Christopher Reeve was very genuine as well. He was the very definition of dignity after his accident. Loved your reaction, Cassie. - Eric, your birthday twin

Eric

I prefer the Rod Taylor/George Pal original to the remake, but I suspect the newer film (with its more modern filmmaking sensibilities: a faster pace, digital effects, etc) will appeal to Cassie more. I do like that both films have Alan Young in them though.

Stick Figure Studios

I remember this one. This was a made for cable movie. Very clever.

Stick Figure Studios

I love the movie, but I've never actually read the Richard matheson source material. The differences are fascinating.

Stick Figure Studios

One of my favorite Reeves films is Deathtrap, which also stars Michael Cain. Go into it blind, I promise you won't be disappointed. I think it's right in your wheel house for fun/humor/whodunit style mystery.

Dennis L

your movie knowledge is legendary!! thanks for the awesome comments always! and suggestions❤️❤️

Cassie

yes, that was the feeling I had going into it, just prepared for some good feelings❤️❤️ I love that those family summer camps were real haha

Cassie

Ha ha. "The future." Good one.

Stephen B

that is so interesting! i almost wish he did have a tumor in the movie, wouldn’t have made the ending as sad if he was dying anyways, not just dying to be with her

Cassie

Hard to compete with their first date...

David

This was a first time watch for me. To be honest, I don't think I've seen any movies from Christopher Reeve other than the four Supermans. I enjoyed both the reactions and the movie despite its flaws. Reeve and Jane Seymour had wonderful chemistry. One thing I really miss though is another 10-15 minutes more time on screen they got to spend together. Also, after reading that it is based on a book that has a different ending, I think I would have preferred that one a bit more. As for time travel movies, Cassie, you have already seen many of the great ones. Some suggestions that I haven't seen mentioned in previous comments: Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009) While three social outcasts are drinking in their local pub, all hell breaks loose after one of them meets a girl named Cassie, who claims to be from the future. It is a not that well known, small budget movie, but has some good, fun moments to it. I was quite pleasantly surprised and entertained by it. Interstellar (2014) A team of explorers travel through space and time in an attempt to ensure humanity's survival.

Gábor Árki

Teresa Wright was great and never achieved the superstardom she deserved despite her academy award accolades. It was a case of she didn't quite have "the look". Unfortunately, some actresses who had the look, couldn't act. "I didn't have much to say after watching this pleasant reaction to an OK movie I haven't seen in maybe 20 or25 years" I'm afraid this is becoming the norm for me and I am watching fewer and fewer of the reactions.

Michael Threapleton

Everyone gets something different out of a Cassie reaction. I didn't have much to say after watching this pleasant reaction to an OK movie I haven't seen in maybe 20 or25 years, but I was stunned and gobsmacked when the first name to appear when the credits rolled at the end of the movie was Teresa Wright! If you know, you know. One of the stars of the movie I most want Cassie to see and I have mentioned it in the comments a 100 times, I had to rewatch the scene she was in, she was the author who at the beginning of the film tells Richard that the watch disappeared the night Elsie died. Her voice was just the same after all these years. Glad I watched this!

MikeLL

For another time travel film I recommend Slaughterhouse-Five (1972). It is based on Kurt Vonnegut's time-bending, anti-war novel. It will be more challenging than the other time travel movies mentioned, but worth the effort. You'll get to see more ( a lot more!) of the great Valerie Perrine who was Miss Teschmacher in Superman.

Michael Threapleton

I watched this movie years ago at a Bed And Breakfast in Twain Harte, CA on a day off from working at a summer camp like the one in Dirty Dancing (Except we were far less coordinated and had more rules about watermelon delivery). I remember it fondly as a great movie to lounge in bed to. I wasn’t hoping for a car chase or explosion at any point. Thanks to everyone who suggested it and to Cassie for picking it. Very nice to see it again.

Steve Holton

A great reaction as always. Though I suspected you wouldn't be crazy about the ending, I knew you'd love this film. I do, too. It's a sweet, sentimental but earnestly felt love story with an interesting sci-fi element (THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE of its day) and Reeve's first project after SUPERMAN. Lovely location (and yes, the Grand Hotel is a real place; I'd like to go there myself someday). Gorgeous music score by John Barry who composed it mere months after the death of both of his parents, so its thoroughly beautiful but melancholy nature comes from him just cathartically pouring his own heart and soul into it. The piece of classical music that features so centrally in the plot, "Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini" by Rachmaninoff, is one of my favorite compositions. So lovely. In fact, my wife let me select it for our wedding when she walked down the aisle towards me. As for other Chris Reeve films -- besides SUPERMAN II (theatrical cut) which you are obviously going to do at some point -- you should see, some have obviously already been mentioned, but there's... DEATHTRAP - A good old-fashioned murder mystery / comedy with some fun twists and turns. Based on a play and also starring Michael Caine and Dyan Cannon. REMAINS OF THE DAY - Reeve doesn't have a huge part in this, but it's such a marvelous, elegant and emotional film, that it's worth seeing anyway. A period love story also starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. This is my own personal favorite of the Merchant/Ivory productions. REAR WINDOW - Nobody else is probably going to mention this one, but this made for TV remake was Reeve's first film following the horse-riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Like Jimmy Stewart's character in the original, Reeve is a wheelchair-bound writer who starts to suspect a neighbor has murdered his wife. Not the great film that Hitchcock's was, but not bad either and worth watching just to see Reeve's triumphant return to acting. Also starring Daryl Hannah and Robert Forster. And for time travel movies that you need to see (and again, many of these have already been mentioned but they are worth highlighting): 12 MONKEYS, BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, TIME AFTER TIME, FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR, TIME BANDITS, KATE & LEOPOLD, THE TIME MACHINE (I think the original is better, but you might find the remake with Guy Pearce more appealing), LOOPER and some Star Trek movies when you finally get to that series.

Stick Figure Studios

Was it a comment on a YouTube video?

Tim Raths

For Time Travel films I like the Spanish film Timecrimes (2007) and Predestination is good.

Bret

Dave Freese pointed that comment out to me, and we both chose not to reply to it in hopes that you wouldn’t see it. Man that makes me mad😡

Cole Jennett

unfortunately…not a lot of great Christopher Reeves films. What a great guy he appeared to be!

Steve Barrett

So glad you reacted to this - I thought you’d like it!!

Steve Barrett

Two of the most graciously beautiful people to shine on a movie screen..can't get enough of looking at CR,Jane Seymour is stunning in her Edwardian era wardrobe,I want to spend a week in that gorgeous hotel!..Add The Grand Hotel,Mackinac Island,Michigan to your PIB tour of America Cassie.

Celeste McAllister

It was Morgans first big role in a movie, he was 50. He got an Oscar nomination for it. I really like the film, it was a passion project for Chris. He agreed to make Superman 4 if the same studio would make Street Smart.

TommyJ.

I love Frequency! Not just one of the most unique time travel movies but a great father and son story. I know a lot of people who watch it every fathers day.

TommyJ.

I loved their friendship. Few people know that Chris and Robin had been best friends since college. Always joking that Robin would be a character actor and Chris would be a leading man. God-father to each others kids. Robin was the first person at his bedside after the accident and payed most of his Hospital bills.

TommyJ.

I would think anyone who believes in heaven would love the ending of Somewhere in Time, they are together forever. Jeannot Szwarc agreed to direct Jaws 2 for Universal studios if they would agree to let him make Somewhere in Time. A good Chris Reeve movie is "Street Smart" about a reporter who fakes a story to get ahead and then has to use a murder/pimp to back the story. It is Morgan Freemans first starring role in a movie, he was 50. He is brilliant in the movie and got an Oscar nomination for it.

TommyJ.

Hi Cassie, the actor who played her manager is Christopher Plummer who was Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Fun fact: The scene near the beginning when he goes into the hall of history and sees her portrait for the first time, CR didn’t want to see the portrait before they filmed the scene so that they could capture his authentic reaction to seeing it. They kept it covered until he turns to look at it. Christopher Reeve’s story is sad. In 1995 he was in an equestrian competition and was thrown from the horse and broke his neck. He was paralyzed from the shoulders down and was on a ventilator. It was so strange to see “Superman” like that. He appeared in a few episodes of the TV show Smallville. He was an advocate for stem cell research and he was certain that he would walk again. Unfortunately, he had constant issues with infections and went into cardiac arrest in 2004 after starting a new medication and went into a coma and passed away the following day. He remained close friends with Jane Seymour until he died. Jane recently came out saying that they fell in love in real life while filming the movie, but CR learned that his Ex was having a baby. She went on to have her own children and named on of them Kristopher.

Tara

I love this movie. It was Chris's last before his accident. One of my fav John Carpenter movies.

TommyJ.

Great movie!

TommyJ.

The Time Machine (2002): I really enjoy this movie. It was a remake of what was considered a classic (the one from 1960), and it was unfortunately poorly received when it came out. I was swept up in its pulpy, almost high-fantasy spirit. (I even think it improves upon a weakness in the plot of the original 1960 classic, making us sympathize with certain characters we didn't before.) It has a fantastic music score by Klaus Badelt. And despite it being critically panned, I've only ever heard people talk about it fondly - at least those who do remember it. The one main criticism I personally have is that it's extremely short, considering all the major plot shifts that happen. But it's otherwise very enjoyable if you're willing to suspend some disbelief.

WastedPo

Village of the Damned!!!!

Deth

You should def check out "Deathtrap" for a great Christopher Reeve performance! 🙋🏻‍♂️

Doubting Thomas

I think he was likely typecast after Superman. It seem weird, since even in the role of Superman, he showed a lot of range when you consider his comedic acting as Clark Kent.

WastedPo

If you're looking for another great time travel film to watch next than I really can't recommend enough "12 Monkeys". A fantastic Sci-fi thriller featuring Bruce Willis at his absolute best. You might also want to check out "Time Bandits", a highly enjoyable children's fantasy adventure, or "Peggy Sue Got Married", a romantic comedy drama starring Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage.

Jake McNulty

Grand Tour: Disaster In Time (1991) I remember enjoying this movie when it played on cable TV. It's not a famous blockbuster, just an intriguing little story that has stuck with me. Jeff Daniels and Ariana Richards (the girl from Jurassic Park). It was also directed by David Twohy, who later went on to make Pitch Black with Vin Diesel. Part of why this movie has gained folklore status in my mind is that it's now incredibly difficult to find. It's not streaming anywhere and the only hard-copies are standard-def DVDs going for Ebay prices. There ARE some pretty low-quality uploads on Youtube, but they really don't do the movie justice. A proper reaction would likely be impossible, but I just wanted to give the movie its due.

WastedPo

Thank you for watching this. It is amazing in so many ways. Can make you laugh, cry, angry and everything in between. Try just listening to the music. Brings me to tears every time

GamerGal8684

Deathtrap with Christopher Reeve and Michael Cain is one of my favorites of Christopher's movies!

Rue

No one has mentioned Time Bandits!

Goony71

My mom's favorite movie and one of mine as well. We watched it every year together. Just got back a week ago with my wife from Mackinac Island! It was great seeing the locations from the film and walking through the Grand Hotel.

egander

Most realistic-feeling time travel movie: Primer. most silly-fun time travel movie: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Until these two are watched, no time travel series will be complete.

Mark

Frequency is very good! I would love to see a reaction of that!

Rainbow Dash

"Time travel poll in the future"........nice one Cassie. "Frequency" is great time travel and has some of your favorite themes.

Seymor Butz

Deathtrap is so well done with lots of twists and turns.

Beau Mont

Add my votes to 'Deathtrap' and 'Noises Off'. I would also like to mention the made-for-TV remake of 'Rear Window' (1998). It was nowhere as good as the original, but it was Reeve's first performance after his accident and it was good to see him act again. Maybe not for the channel, but it's worth watching.

David Patterson

When Elise asked him to "come back to me," as an old woman, I don't believe she meant for him to commit suicide in order to do it.

Gary W

This was my mom's favorite love story. So much so, my dad bought himself a silver fiat spider convertible to drive her around in.

Christopher Smith

This is just the kind of movie you needed after Poltergeist Cassie.

James1035

12 Monkeys (1995) and Predestination (2014) are great time travel movies. Except for the Back to the Future trilogy those would be my top picks. Primer (2004) is highly regarded as well but is hard to follow as a lot of action happens off screen and needs several rewatches.

Wes Stewart

I prefer this one 😉 IMDb: : Pride and Prejudice and Zombies https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1374989/

Jon Johns

Peggy Sue! I almost forgot about that one!! Cassie & Carly might really enjoy that one! (Maybe a nic cage double feature with Moonstruck?)

Jon Johns

I want to plus one "Primer." Almost all time travel movies are a hodgepodge of confusing paradoxes, tricksy storytelling, and often, really bad effects. Primer is just plain simple good filmmaking. The characters are confused, so it's not really tricking the viewer. Fabulous skillful filmmaking.

Jon Johns

Incredible score, and Reeve is absolutely stunning. I’d never seen this before! Not my cup of tea, but I can definitely appreciate the artistry involved here. Definitely check out Reeve in Noises Off, an extremely underrated comedy.

Brian Harris

Gosh, now that you mentioned that movie... I think she would love it. It has a young Harrison too...when he was still experimenting with films. It was free on YouTube a while ago but I don't know if that's the case anymore.

Caomhan84

And ... the music was written by John Barry who wrote the original music to the James Bond 007 series. He also wrote the music to another relatively unknown romance movie with Harrison Ford called Hanover Street. It also had Christopher Plummer in it and I totally recommend u react to it.

3dbadboy1

I feel the reason why he couldn't go back was because of the penny. When he saw it, there was such an impact on him, getting jolted back, basically the ONLY reason why it all went wrong. As such, he could never get it out of his mind, and since it said 1979, there he would stay.

3dbadboy1

That's back-to-back films Christopher Reeve decided to turn back time for the love of a woman

Shawn Kildal

Christopher Reeve recommendation: Village of the Damned. Underrated John Carpenter flick (and no it's not too scary)

Odd Thomas

Okay, finally finished the reaction, and I've got to say...though this channel is all about her discovering movies other than what she's used to, we definitely get a DIFFERENT Cassie when she watches a romance. She gets totally into it, and positively melts as she watches the romance unfold. I would argue that it's just as entertaining to watch this as it is to see her react to other movies. Regarding William Robinson, I'm trying to recall the novel but I think Richard speculates that Robinson IS a time traveler like himself, and then discards the notion later on after speaking with him directly and being around him. Elise explains that the "Is it you?" comes from her encounter with a gypsy fortune teller, who tells her that she will encounter a mysterious stranger who will change her life...and this is the whole reason why she indulges Richard so much when he shows up (and they interact more in the novel, with her really testing him). She has a keen personality in the book that doesn't really show in the movie...and when they sleep together, she releases years of pent-up romantic loneliness and frustration. It's also cute when she plans to give him a makeover and buy him things now that he's "her husband" (and the movie just has the "new suit" line...the movie really could've been 20 minutes longer showing extra scenes with them talking together). It really is interesting to spot the differences in the book and movie given that the same man wrote both.

Caomhan84

I have mixed feelings about the ending as well, Cassie. Christopher Reeve said his biggest concern about the film was the ending, and whether the audience would be able to buy the actor who just played Superman dying of a broken heart. Still, I will say that John Barry, who also did the music for Dances With Wolves, did a gorgeous score for this film.

Aaron Hawkins

Reeve. Not Reeves.

Stick Figure Studios

Quite surprised, and happy (we could get a reaction :D), you haven't seen The Lake House yet. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.

Planner

I think Sense and Sensibility is the movie people are telling you that is like Pride and Prejudice. They are both written by Jane Austen. And yes, Sense and Sensibility is a must. Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant star in it

Shawn Kildal

The Grand Hotel is in Mackinac Island, Michigan. The movie was shot completely there except for a few scenes in Chicago. My brother is going there in a few months. I couldn't be more jealous. I'd love to go there. I don't think motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. Only horse carriages and bicycles, I think. As far as I know, or at least it used to, the hotel does Somewhere in Time weekends. People / fans are dressed in 1912 clothing and have conventions there which includes those who worked on the movie. There are plenty YouTube vidoes surrounding that. There is also a monument spotting the location where the two main characters meet by the lake for the first time. I'd really like to there sometime. Bucket list along with the Rocky steps in Philadelphia

Shawn Kildal

I really like Christopher Reeve in The Remains of the Day. It is more of a character study of the characters of Antony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. It is a dower and difficult film, but the acting is amazing.

Ryan

Above Suspicion (1995) is a very good made for tv film. Christopher Reeve plays a paralyzed detective. After it was released, Christopher Reeve suffered a spinal cord injury. "Chris Reeve, I miss you. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, sweet prince." - Robin Williams.

G

I love time travel films and the idea of a time travel poll. Here is some suggestion that I think you haven't seen yet. Planet of the Apes (1968) - sci-fi. Charlton Heston Frequency (2000) - sci-fi/thriller. Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel 12 Monkeys (1995) - sci-fi/thriller. Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt The Butterfly Effect (2004) - sci-fi/thriller. Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart Time After Time (1979) - sci-fi/thriller. Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen Pleasantville (1998) - fantasy/comedy. Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon Army of Darkness (1992) - horror/comedy. Bruce Campbell Happy Death Day (2017) - horror/dark comedy. Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard The Lake House (2006) - fantasy/romance. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) - fantasy/comedy. Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage

G

It was filmed on Mackinaw Island Michigan at the Grand Hotel. The hotel is real, been there a lot to take relatives to “the hotel Somewhere In Time was made”. Throwback of an island, no motorized vehicles allowed, although I think some were allowed for filming purposes for the film. Only means of travel on the island are bikes and horse drawn carriages, quaint and a bit stinky 😋. Also known for their fudge!

Goony71

That's not Jane Seymour. The Gerber baby was Ann Turner Cook. She just died in June. She was 95.

Caomhan84

I watched this one while sitting on the floor of our living room, in 1981…while my parents watched and swooned on the sofa behind me. It was a big hit in theaters. That day it was the ABC Sunday Night Movie. Now much older, I’d like to think that he didn’t die, but the door to the modern world was closed to him (hence him dying in the present). He did go back, he wrote plays, she helped and they got married, had well-mannered kids… (and soccer practice, lol). BTW, I think Jane Seymour is the little baby on Little Gerber (baby food) labels. Or maybe I’m confusing her with another actress.

Hmm, not my typical cup of tea. But if I have learned anything from watching you Cass. You never know what else you might enjoy if you stick to your normal stuff.

Is there soccer practice in heaven? Time Travel Poll? Yes now you've done BTTF I've some ideas! Primer, Predestination, FAQ About Time Travel, does Memento count? I really want to recommend Memento - it doesn't get enough love and is a fantastic first time watch.

DEATHTRAP is a nice little comedy mystery that Christopher Reeves did with Michael Caine. He was also in a movie called STREET SMART with Morgan Freeman, but Freeman really steals the movie away in that one.

Yes, the hotel is real. They have a get together every year or two years, I think, that celebrates this movie. People dress up in period costumes and everything. Jane Seymour went herself a few years back.

One of my favorite movies.

I would half-heartedly recommend the third one. It's when the series first takes its significant dip in quality, but there's still some great elements in it (the junkyard fight, Annette O'Toole's Lana lang, Reeve's performance as Red Kryptonite Superman, etc). The fourth one is just crap.

Of course we'll be gentle. It's just your opinion and that's fine. You have no soul.

I came here to recommend this if someone didn't already. Great movie!

Ron

meh, the premise is a TV Movie at best. Very silly to me. Please be gentle. It's just my opinion.

The Remains of the Day, also starring Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter) is brilliant. Apart from Superman, the only other film of his I recall seeing is Carpenter's awful remake of Village of the Damned (a film about a village full of evil children, not your type of thing, methinks). I know he starred in TV remake of Rear Window after his accident. Favourite time travel movies? Back to the Future, obviously:) It probably won't get a mention so I'll also shoutout Primer. An ultra low budget (7,000 dollars apparently, which is mind boggling), low key but highly complex sci-fi from 2004.

Another Christopher Reeve film - Noises Off … it was a childhood favorite of mine. Also really enjoyed Frequency with Jim Caviezel & Dennis Quaid. I think you’d like it! BUT if you give anime another chance - definitely consider Your Name 💕

Superman 2 is also recommended, but not the 3rd and 4th movie in the franchise.

Really the best acclaimed movie he's been in (but wasn't the lead actor) was The Remains of the Day which starred Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson

It's very interesting to me that Richard Matheson wrote both the novel and the movie, yet both of them are different in certain ways. In the novel, Richard has a terminal brain tumor (leading him, and later his brother who reads his journal, to believe that he might have hallucinated the whole thing) and Elise has much, much more agency than she displays in the movie. She really interrogates Richard to make absolutely sure that he isn't some fortune hunter, and has his story straight. It also takes place in 1896 instead of it 1912... And the hotel is different. When they fall in love, the release is volcanically cathartic in the novel, while in the movie it's slow and sweet. Again, written by the same person, yet so different and both equally worthy and good.

I liked Deathtrap.

Christopher Reeve never really seemed to have a huge career beyond the Superman franchise. The only other movie I remember seeing him in was Switching Channels.

So looking forward to watching your reaction on this one!
