I want to touch upon something Director brought up at the end about the animation and 'budget.' People talk about the budget when animation is good or bad, but in this case it was a scheduling issue where the animation couldn't be done in time, so they used cg to rush it through. It would be one thing if they were using cg animation as a tool to enhance the story, but that's not what happened here. It was used to safe time and so the cg was half baked. One of the key things in an animation series is in fact animation. My complaint about the animation this series are once again thrown at the animation/production company higher ups not doing a good job and forcing the animators to have to cut corners. And the well animated shot, excluding the finale, are mostly still shots they use with the camera panning to imply motion. This series is great and I'm glad you like it, but if the animation this season is enough to get a pass from you then please read the manga. Because that's what we've been watching. A full color manga with an anime's sound design. If you took the manga panels and put them together with the sound from the anime it would be just as hype. To be clear, I'm not saying an anime has to surpass it's manga, but I am saying that an anime adaptation should bring something new that the manga couldn't do and there are plenty of places you can hear someone reading manga online. I do love this series and I think it deserves better animation than what was presented this season. And I have the same thoughts about Tower of God season 2. The drop in quality between the 1st seasons of those anime was heart breaking. Both of those series were peak and brought in attention and resources the animation studios need. So why do we keep getting downgrades for 2nd seasons lately? Maybe I'm yelling at a wall, but if we as fans of this industry don't step up and call it out then what are they going to try to do next? Also on the opposite end, when an adaptation is fantastic I think it deserves to be called out. I know it was a movie and not a series but the Battle of the Garbage Dump Haikyu movie was an example of an animated adaptation exceeding it's manga source. Not just in terms of animation, but in concepts. How they used the camera, slow motion, perspective, etc. enhanced the story being told. That being said the sound design team for Blue Lock season 2 popped off! Holy shit I want to re-read the match while the listening to the anime. The made us really feel like we're in the arena.
