also this is a weird thing to point out but i absolutely love characters who smile through every situation, but particularly when they're clearly hurting (i.e. saen and thorn). like it makes me empathize with the characters even more than if they had a sad or depressed expression. like when they will let someone know directly that they hurt them or that they're 100% not ok, but they always do it with a smile.. that breaks my cold dead little heart ngl.
