Fantastic chapter. I particularly liked the opening conversation with Saar. I feel like you nailed what kind of disposition a captain of Azoryev would have. He was reasonable, level-headed, and it seemed like he was personally sympathetic to David's plight. But when Moriah insulted his strength, he immediately squared up. The tension visibly ratcheted up as soon as she threw down the gauntlet. And there was no question that his loyalty to the Council is unerring — as surely every angel devout enough to be appointed captain must be. But as soon as he was confronted with the evidence of the invaders, Saar adapted, taking David's tactical information into stride. We got so much characterization about a pragmatic commander in just a few pages. Really good stuff. I want more smart but ruthless angels! I also enjoyed Ezekiel's reactions. The progression of his analysis of the situation was fittingly lightning-quick. From his rapid evaluation of David's story to the resigned realization that David must die to the immediate lunge towards Moriah, mwah *chef's kiss* We love a decisive reaper of death. I lol'd at the instant wave of death towards the invaders. And speaking of, I dig the mindflayer-esque flavor of the aliens. Tentacles, purple armor, telekinetic powers? Sign me up. Let's gobble some brains up!
