Author Update: Writing Villains Don't Date Heroes! Again
Added 2025-04-24 23:27:01 +0000 UTCSo as of yesterday I started writing new material for Villains Don't Date Heroes! This is one of my most successful projects in my decade as an indie writer. It started out as a porn with a plot story back during the first Kindle Unlimited erotica boom when I was desperate to write anything that would make enough money to get me out of my soul sucking job.
I revised it when I went full time but it still had some of the more R-rated scenes in it. Then in 2017 I felt like there was more there so I revised it again to the story that you've been enjoying so far. It ended up being a huge success and I launched a series that did very well.
Unfortunately the realities of indie publishing meant that the books cost more than the usual stuff I was writing at the time due to cover art and things like that. Eventually it got to the point where I wanted to continue the story, but new books in the series weren't making back enough to make it viable at a time when I had a new kid and had just moved to a new house. So I made the decision to take a narrative off ramp.
Now here we are eight years later, and I decided to start republishing the story as a serial. I feel like the superhero feel to the book is better served by the serialized format anyway. People at the Crazy Super Fan level just reached the end of the first book, and I decided to write out an interlude between books 1 and 2 that happened off screen in the original series.
And it's a lot of fun writing Night Terror again. She's by far one of my favorite characters I've ever created, and something I love writing which is why I keep coming back to this series and Lucasing it up. Much like Ricardo Montalban reprising his Khan role, I was worried it'd been too long and I'd have trouble getting back into that headspace. But so far I'm having a blast!
