YELLOWSTONE SWARMS NOW OUTDOING LONG VALLEY
Added 2022-09-04 04:01:59 +0000 UTCAbout a hundred quakes in a river valley located in Northwest Yellowstone has been ongoing for a week or so. This location is the scene of several incidents. Uplift, roads melting and even the largest quakes of 1959 a 7.3 mag caused a landslide, a lake tsunami occurred in this portion of the park. If there is going to be an eruption, it would most likely start here in this river valley.
Seismograms showing harmonic tremors appear to be true harmonics but they are 9 km to 15 km deep and do not signal an eruption. Many of these show water noise which can be determined by the fact that those harmonics do not register on neighboring instruments. Lava generated harmonic will register 5 miles away. Since this is a river valley recent incredible flooding in the park may have re charged deeper reservoirs and now that deeper water is interacting with the magma. Some seismograms show the fracturing of rock with tremors known as tornillo tremors. Those are occurring at deeper depths and are not that shallow. But since there are deeper lava harmonics and tornillo tremors, the situation requires increased monitoring.
