I'm convinced you were spawned into the world as a mid twenties entertainment industry worker like a blade runner android. You treat children like they're way younger then they are, but expect them to have all the worldly knowledge of a 40 year old man. You're supposed to do like the opposite of that. Speak to them like adults but understand that they probably don't know much.
