The Rising of the Shield Hero 1x05 "Filo" reaction & review

NOTE!!!!!!! Ugh, so sorry guys, please disregard anything I say around 26:56.  I misread the subtitle and did not read the "don't" in the sentence haha...which completely changed the meaning.  I also discuss the sentence in my outro, please just disregard this, my bad for not reading correctly!  >.<  Fortunately I caught it while rewatching before I filmed my next reaction, so you won't hear about it again!  Now if you'll excuse me while I go facepalm while hiding under a rock....!!!!  >.<

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to the next episode!  Okay, I'm just gonna say that Filo is my whole heart now!!!!!  How, on a show with such moral grays and dark themes, do they keep introducing sweet little characters that blow my mind with their cuteness?!?!  It's a true skill!  Speaking of skill, I LOVED watching Motoyasu getting kicked in a...erm...sensitive area, as well as losing the race even after blatantly cheating!!!  That race sums up Naofumi right there - he just keeps going no matter how much others try to screw him over.  Can't wait to see what will happen next!  Great ep, enjoy!  ~ MH

Ohhhhhhh no sounds like I have something coming soon...!! Thanks for clearing that up about the Queen! And your theory makes so much sense!! That would explain things a lot. HAHA "ahem bad person", I totally hear you, trying to keep things civil when talking about Myne is not easy! Good point though, at least legally giving the village to Naofumi would protect it somewhat. Good theory!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

"When do we get to meet the owl"? *In enters Filo* Lol to "I can tell you where you can put that royal decree" i was dying when you said that to Myne. XD preach!

That kick to the family jewels is preemptive karma for Motoyasu because... well, you'll see soon enough. On another note. Yes, that was the Queen in that first scene. About the whole thing in the town (and this is just me theorizing) I guess once word started to spread that Lute village wasn't toeing the line and shunning Naofumi, the king made that decree about giving the village to Motoyasu and by extension Myne/Malty. I think the whole overtaxing the town was Malty's idea to metaphorically choke the town to death out of spite. (Also because I don't think Motoyasu has two brain cells to rub together). The message from the queen put a stop to that because Melromarc is a matriarchy and the Queen's orders supersede the King's. What did the message say? From Malty's immediate reaction I think the Queen gave Naofumi control over the town (basically the same the King tried to do with Motoyasu). Because, why else would that redheaded bi... ahem, bad person try to wager the rule of the village with Naofumi if he didn't have some kind of official right over it? We don't get to see the scroll again so... Maybe? And as you said Naofumi didn't have the slightest interest in ruling the village but giving it to Naofumi would give the village some degree of legal protection against someone trying to do what the king was trying to do. And if all the above was true then Naofumi could have just declined the challenge and told Myne and Co. to get lost. But, as I said this is just a theory.

I totally see what you mean here!!! The whole slave seal thing makes me pretty uncomfortable as well, not gonna lie. It was an interesting choice to have Raphtalia impose the seal on herself again instead of carrying on without it, like you said - there's still plenty of conflict to be had with other characters in the series this way. All I can think of is that maybe it will come into play later on, or have some purpose/explanation that's relevant to the plot?? Also I thought the spear hero was Motoyasu, I might have that mixed up though haha. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!!

Melissa Moore

Okay so I wanted to talk about this moment since last week. The ending of the last episode was pretty damn beautiful, and Naofumi putting the slave seal on Raphtalia kind of ruins that moment. Like sure Raphtalia was the one who wanted it back on for Naofumi's comfort(and I'm sure he wouldn't dare use it order her around) and there's other benefits to handwave the negative implications away, but you could easily handwave those same benefits as just being a benefit of being a part of the Hero's party. It just would have been so much better if they just didn't have the slave seal anymore. It'd show how Naofumi is learning to trust people again(with no slave seal as a safety net), it'd show how loyal Raphtalia is to Naofumi(and maybe give her a little trouble ignoring people shit talking the Shield Hero within earshot of her without confronting them about it. ;P ) , and you can have the people who think the Shield Hero is a fiend go all conspiracy on the two's relationship like: "They got rid of that girl's slave seal and she's STILL with the Shield Hero? IT MUST BE BRAINWASHING, I JUST CAN'T FIND ANY OTHER EXPLANATION!". It's just one out of three things that really bother me about this story, another being the Hero of the spear(or Lance? I keep forgetting which it was.).
