Attack on Titan 3x20 "That Day" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of season 3, episode 20.  Well, that was QUITE a bit of info!  It's so nice to finally have some answers to all the things I've wondered about for three seasons...but like I say in my reaction, it's like they've given me breadcrumbs up until now, and just decided to start pelting loaves at me in this episode!  Oh yeah, and let's not forget about a certain HUGE REVEAL about a certain character, what in the world?!?!?!  I can't wait to know more!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Attack on Titan 3x20 "That Day" reaction & review

Oh wow!!!! No kidding! I hadn't noticed that about the Yeagers either. Ick, the torture scene sounds like it was even worse!!! :O I can see this being very reminiscent of WWII! So true that history is written by the winner. Thanks for clearing that up about Ymir! And that's good to know that the devil in this is probably mostly symbolic and not really taken literally by anyone. Thanks for all the info!!

Melissa Moore

If you look at the map, it's africa upside down and the walls are on madagascar though proportions are incorrect. If you notice the yeagers all have a similarity; they all have pointy ears. Grisha, Eren and Zeke. Someone did the math and said there could be 250-500,000 titans in the walls, not millions. They cut it out but in the totrure scene in addition to cutting off fingers they castrated them in the manga. yes that titan ate eren's mom and hannes, that old bearded titan it the one that first ate eren in ep 5. I thought it was fitting there are 9 titan shifters (only one we haven't seen) and 9 left after the fight with berthold and reiner, This is very much WW2 based with the arm bands being gold stars and eldians are jews. Remember, History is written by the winner. also not clear if you understand buy Ymir Fritz and Ymir (Historia's besties) are different people but looked very similar. There is a lot of devil imagery but it's seen as not really taken seriously by marley or eldians there was an ACTUAL devil.

I think I will before I move on to ep 22! Thanks!

Go back and watch the episodes you have questions about in relation to this episode to increase your understanding . Also re watch Ymir's flashback episode Season 2: 10

Oh no! I didn't see it; Patreon likes to delete comments occasionally, it's a glitch I've noticed a lot especially for edited comments! >.< Thanks for taking the time to rewrite! I couldn't agree more! So true, every tiny detail is connected as we learn the truth and background of everything in these episodes. It's really amazing! Talk about a long game! Very true that even the slightest error would have had a huge impact, but thankfully everything was very carefully laid out ahead of time on this show!

Melissa Moore

What happened to my comment :(. Anyway, I'll rewrite. After watching this episode, I had said, "I'm privileged to witness Attack on Titan". I mean, the episode itself is phenomenal but the story is even more phenomenal. This episode, this revelation of the story, elevates the entire series; it gives true meaning and substance to what happened before and weight to what is to come(unknown). Dina's revelation was shocking and shows how well-thought every small detail is. However, that remained as a small detail after learning about the story. The revelation of the story, how deep and how well-connected it is to everything truly blew my mind(It still does to this day). Also, it's really beautiful. As I've seen in many other shows, all it takes is a small mistake and miscalculation to ruin the story. Especially if it's this detailed with lots of clues and shocking events. Game of Thrones and The Mentalist are two examples of this.

Hahaha omg! Please excuse the SFX!!!! Dang, that was very audible, did not realize that haha. What can I say, all that thinking got me hungry! >.< Lol!

Melissa Moore

Ohhhhh I did not even catch this!!!!!! Massive breaking of the fourth wall! Gotta say, this show is pretty interesting :P You are so welcome and thank YOU!!! So glad you enjoyed my reaction!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Ahhhh okay! Got it! That makes sense! Thanks!!!

Melissa Moore

Ahhhh that's where I saw him! Thanks! Wow, it's really cool to know that all these Titans we've seen are now being given actual backgrounds!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the info!

Melissa Moore

Got it!! That makes much more sense! Thank you! Please disregard some questions I have on Ymir in the next ep then. Also, good point about Grisha's evidence being, well, not that much solid evidence, but more of a feeling! I appreciate all the info!

Melissa Moore

Hahahaha it was a lot wasn't it? A rewatch really helps!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Gotcha! Thanks so much for clearing that up; please disregard some questions I have about Ymir in the next ep then lol. That makes sense!

Melissa Moore

Ah! Got it! Thank you, that makes so much more sense! Please disregard some questions I have about Ymir in the next ep then. Glad I was right about Dina - dang, that must have been awkward when she found his new wife!!! :O I do remember Zeke saying that, it makes so much more sense now. Thanks for all the info! And thank you for your compliments, so glad you enjoyed my reaction!!!!!!!!!! ^_^ I'm so excited to get even more answers in the coming eps!

Melissa Moore

Did I hear a Stomach growling at 38:54 ? hahaha someone's hungry...

I think that even Grisha, would agree with you about his own behavior actually. However, you can't expect an oppressed & abused person to behave with same forbearance as a free person that enjoys civil rights. Remember what Sasha, says about Annie, screaming & rebelling like a cornered animal. Grisha, weaponizing his children are choices of desperation. Though morally questionable; weaponizing Eren, clearly saved many lives. As, Armin, points out, "in order to surpass monsters, accomplish goals or make a difference, you must be willing to sacrifice anything, even your humanity." :)

People here pointed a lot of thing, so I will just mention this : "Do you get enjoyement out of people getting eaten by Titans?" "Because it is interesting". From this point on, do you notice that the gaze of the Major Gross (lol) almost never left the camera. During his little speech, he kept looking right at the "camera". He was not only talking to Grisha, but also to "us", the viewers. "Because it is interesting". Nice breaking of the fourth wall here, because it can not have been unintentional ;) That was SUCH a good episode, even if it was a bit heavy on information ! Great reaction, thanks !

Unpopular opinion but I actually really don’t like Grisha. Obviously what happened to his sister was tragic and the state of the world is plain awful but he as a person isn’t much better. The dude outright lied about the history of Ymir- he claimed that the Marleyan history was wrong and that the original Ymir (who is different from the Ymir we know) was actually wonderful but when questioned on how he knows that he basically says because he believes that to be the case. Whilst it’s totally possible that the Marleyans are lying, the fact he’s leading the restorationists based on a pure lie that he’s making up/choosing to believe is pretty screwed up. Then there’s the fact he’s choosing to restore Eldia and wipe out Marley in the process. It’s just like Gross said (even though baldy is a piece of shit he was right about one thing) when he pointed out ‘What were you planning to do to Marley? Don’t you feel any remorse?’ Grisha was obviously disgusted by the subjugation and racism towards his people but he was planning to do the same thing in return. But what really seals it for me is his treatment of Zeke. He outright admits in hindsight that he didn’t see Zeke as a human being or a person, just a tool to be used to restore Eldia and what he cared about was Zeke’s royal blood. He forced a massive weight on his son’s shoulders, trying to make him into a spy and telling him it was up to him to save the world. I cannot understand how someone could manipulate their child so cruelly and completely disregard the emotional trauma that could cause. And of course we know that later down the line, although he’s not as forceful and has settled, he still turns his other son into a titan and forces a similar burden on his shoulders. Ultimately, although many people understandably feel for Grisha, I still see him as a selfish zealot who became obsessed with a half-baked dream and was willing to sacrifice and use everyone and anyone to pursue it.

One small correction: I think you got most of it right, but the king's threat to Marely is referring to the colossal titans inside the wall, not the normal titans wandering around outside. Those are just Marley prisoners that they sent to their punishment.

Rory Borcherding

also the fact that people had their memories wiped so they had to start from scratch with only whatever they brought with them to the island AND the government would restrict development of new technology to prevent people from learning about what was outside the walls

tom

It actually makes sense how advanced the people outside the walls are. They did not have to face the titans which means they can focus on developing their technologies. They have a larger land to explore for valuable resources. This also explains why the beast titan did not know about the 3D Maneuver gear when the show introduced him in the first episode of season 2. The Marley had the power of 7 titans, and all the other titans were on paradise island, they did not care that much in developing something to kill the titans, because they didn't need to.

Hussain Alghazal

The bearded titan was the one who swallowed Eren and Armin in Season 1 Episode 5. Dina's titan was the one who ate Carla and Hannes. Here are the other patriots and their pure titan forms as shown in previous episodes. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShingekiNoKyojin/comments/gd3o1w/anime_spoilers_fellow_patriots/

The Ymir we know isn't the one from the history books. She was just a homeless child adopted by a cult and named Ymir to be worshipped 70 or so years ago. She was turned into a titan by Marley for being the head of the cult. She just by pure chance ate Reiner, Bertoldt and Annie's comrade Marcel who was a titan shifter. The Ymir in the history books lived nearly 2000 years ago and is meant to be the progenitor of the Eldian race that conquered the continent. But note, even though Marley use propaganda about Ymir and Eldia's past, Grisha's proof that Eldia was a good empire also is just down to "I just feel it!"

James Simpkin

Well.. if you got it all you are good.. cause i didnt.. thats for sure :DD way too complex lol..

Dethrox

Just to clarify, The Ymir Grisha & co are talking about is different from the Ymir who was friends with historia. Current time Ymir was named after the the OG Ymir.

Aadit Doshi

hi, first of all the Ymir we know is not the one they were talking about, she was an orphan girl without a name that was made the to be worship as the real Ymir and that's why in the episode where we see her back story we see her getting injected with spinal fluid and become a pure titans. All the titans we saw in this episode are ones we already saw : the bearded one is the one who try to ate Armin and ultimately ate Eren in season 1 and yes you're right Dina is the titan that ate Eren's mom she said she'll find him whatever form she'll take and she did but only his new wife was home haha ;) Yes every titan shifters we met are part of the Marlian army remember when Ziek spoke with Eren he said that they were both victims of Grisha and that Eren had been brainwash by him. An important info is also that only eldians (AKA "the subjects of Ymir") can become titans so Annie, Reiner and Berthold are the same "race" as Eren and everyone inside the walls. Nice reaction by the way hope you enjoy the few next episodes almost all the mysteries of the show are being answered :)

JeremCo

Wait till you see me whip out my notebook like a 5th grader LOL!!!
