Attack on Titan 3x16 "Perfect Game" reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here's my reaction and review of season 3, episode 16. This is so not the time for the Beast Titan to be trying to perfect his pitching skills!!!! >.< The moments with Smith were so great and emotional, watching him come to terms with what's about to happen and what he has to sacrifice (his dream, his life, the scouts, etc.). I'm so sad for Armin, who wouldn't be frozen up right now, but boy could we use some Armin brilliance right now! Once again, I'm left on a cliffhanger wondering what just happened...!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Attack on Titan 3x16 "Perfect Game" reaction & review

Ahhh!! Thank you so much for the reminder! I'm watching 19 today so I'm glad you mentioned it!

Melissa Moore

Aww it is a tear-worthy ep....and as you will see from my next reaction, the tears just keep flowing, indeed lol! He really is haunted by all the bodies that have piled up over his tenure. You are so welcome and thank YOU!!! I hope you love my next reaction, it's a rough one for sure!!!!!!!!!!! :O

Melissa Moore

Right?! They're just young kids!! Oh lord, I was not doing anything close at 15 hahaha. They are truly incredible!!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Right, he's been pretty adamant about this being for humanity's sake, but we know he has his own goals with finding answers. That is such a good point that in the end, Smith lives up to his words and because he is overcome with regret and self-doubt, Levi ends up making the choice for him. Very ironic that the one who always knows what to do couldn't decide what to do!!! So I guess he's really dead??? I was hoping maybe he'd still be alive!! >.< Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction! The next one is gonna be crazy...!!! Hope you love it!!!

Melissa Moore

I hope you love it!!! It's been an amazing journey for sure, I'm so glad you're watching along with me and enjoying it!!!!!!!!! ^_^

Someone has likely told you already but in case not; There is a mid/after credits scene in ep 19

Not really much to say, beside no matter how many times I have watched this, it stills brings me to tears. And as you have seen the next one, you know it won't stop there :( The "distress" of Erwin is sooo palpable here, as you said, he is haunted. To see all the faces of dead scouts (the old Levi's squad...), dang. But hey, "no regrets", yeah ? Thank you for the reaction ! I can't wait but I'm also dreading for the next episode !

It's good to be reminded that these are all mostly young teenagers. I mean what were most of us doing at 15yo; not worrying about being eaten alive, or saving humanity from violent extinction. These kids are amazing:)

Erwin sees himself as selfish because he’s always been fighting for his dream. Earlier in the season Levi asked him if reaching the basement was more important to him that humanity’s victory and Erwin said it was. And then last episode Erwin was stood on the wall thinking to himself that if things get too bad then maybe he can sneak away and reach the basement by himself before he dies. The fact that he died himself was all because of what he’d said to Levi back in the OVA. He said that if you start regretting things then you’ll be crippled by self doubt and end up letting other people make your choices for you. Erwin is so overcome by the regret of all the people he’s sent to their deaths that he didn’t know what to do and thus Levi made the choice for him. You can see the relief in his face and the smile he makes when Levi orders him to die- not only because he’s seeing the irony of his own words coming back to haunt him, but also just to have someone else make the difficult choice instead of him for once. Erwin is basically a man who just doesn’t know what to do anymore. He’s always chased after his dream but other time the sacrifices have been piling up on him. Awesome reaction. Reliving these scenes with you brings them back to life. Can’t wait to see the next two!

i cant wait for the next episode this is such a great journey with you

Awwww hahha so clever!!! Thank you, that made me so happy!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Very true!!!! It's realistic and really drives the stakes up that there may come a time when either of them just has a hard time finding a solution. If anyone could make that speech work, it's Smith, you're so right! And yes, he proved that even though he had thought himself selfish to want to make his dream come true, in the end he put the mission above his dream and sacrificed himself in order to make it work. Oh man, I hope you love my next reaction!!!! It's a rough one for sure!!!!!!!!!!! :O

Melissa Moore

I noticed it sounded like Yeager, but I didn't realize that was the Japanese word for house, I just thought he was saying Eren's name and that the "house" part had already been said (since I know sentence structure is a bit different in Japanese than what we're used to in English)!!! That makes it even sillier and a bit more clever though, lol Conny!!!! Very true that every season feels like it's building to an epic moment, but even moreso in this case!! Ohhhhhhhh I hear you about wondering how it would be topped....but man.....I never saw it coming....!!! Thank you so much, hope you love all my reactions!

Melissa Moore

Ahhhhh yes, such a great point! I'm glad you pointed it out! That's such a great callback! He is really an amazing character!! So true that it was sad to see all the characters we have come to know in some way rush into their deaths, but you're right that it just goes to show how much the show has gotten us invested over time.

Melissa Moore

He truly is!!! Awww no, I could tell he got hit, just couldn't tell where or the severity. I'm not sure if he's alive...? But I guess we will find out!

Melissa Moore

Perfect game and perfect reaction ^^

This episode is pure desperation. I remember reading it in the manga and I was thinking how Erwin and Armin always shoulder the burden of coming up with the strategy to turn the tide, but honestly, it's not guaranteed that they will always have a winning move available. I could really feel the pressure on them, on both sides of the wall they're short on time to come up with something and I was personally short on ideas. Anyway, Erwin's speech is amazing, it's so believable. As I was reading I was questioning what can motivate a person to just throw their life away, they're not really fighting back, they're choosing to die where they are or a few hundred meters forward. But Erwin managed to find meaning in a meaningless endavour. Before this battle when Levi was trying to persuade Erwin to sit behind and not participate in the fight, Erwin said he must be there for the truth and that it's more important to him than the future of humanity. But he chose to honor his comrades deaths and fight for humanity instead of pursuing his dream in the end. That was very altruistic of him, even if he debated it internally. Definitely one of my favorite episodes! Woot, next one is coming soon! :)

It does, but there's spoilers for it in 17 and 18. But 18 doesn't have an opening, 19 does, 20 doesn't, 21 and 22 do, if I remember correctly.

just a note, on Connie's pun in the beginning, if you listen to it when he's talking about the houses he says "Eren Yeager", it's hard to explain but the pun is basically that he is saying "is one of those houses Eren's", and I think one of the ways you can say 'house' in Japanese sounds like "Yeager" so yeah he combined the two, and the translators did their best with creating a joke in English to give a similar corny feeling haha. just thought I'd give Connie some credit, his joke is a little bit funnier in Japanese haha I remember first reading this episode's content in the manga, it was basically the second half of this episode with all the Smith stuff and once I put it down I couldn't stop thinking about it. this arc is really like the peak of AoT, what it's all been building up to - which I guess can sort of seem redundant since every season feels like it keeps building and building and building ahahaha. but yeah I remember after I read "Perfect Game" I was like "how in the hell will this be topped". and then, well, you've seen the next episode. and then there's also the episode after that, which is just damn, can't wait for you to watch the next pair too

tom

So I don't know if you remember but in the No Regrets OVA, I said there was some foreshadowing and now has come the time to reveal that. In that OVA after Isabel and Farlan died Erwin said to Levi "When you allow others to make the choice for you, then all that is left for you is to die". And here Levi said that back to Erwin. Something I didn't notice before until your reactions but here it is. Also Erwin's speech got me again, he is my undisputed number 1 character, I love his character so much. Also seeing the comrades surrounding Erwin and Levi was extremely somber, since we have met most of them and sadly seen most of them die. It was a pretty grim reminder on how far we've come since the start.

Hopefully you saw the opening for the next episode, cause i dont think it shows up after that.

Erwin Smith is the King of Speeches! Unfortunately, Commander Erwin got hit on the left side of his waist and through his horse's head and neck.

Czar

LOL I think you might be right :P I guess they didn't have the benefit of having Wii sports back in AoT days >.<

Melissa Moore

I'm pretty sure the Beast Titan threw a foul ball if Wii sports taught me anyting.
