Yes, I totally agree! It is fun to see some worldbuilding in that way. And it does have an impact on the ease, cost, etc. of products like rubber in this world, compared to our world where we don't just have little orange monsters everywhere that can easily be made into rubber! :P Yet, none of that is ever really done through direct exposition like you said. Very cool, thanks for pointing it out!

I love some of the small background details in this story, and how they're delivered in a "show, don't tell" kind of way. Like an explanation of why there are merchants that buy monster parts. Because apparently certain monster parts make good crafting materials. Like the orange ball made of "Balloon" hide. Making natural rubber in the real world was an intensive process requiring industrial age technology and tropical plants; but here we are in medieval Melromarc, where that whole thing can be shortcut by adventurers killing one of the weakest monsters around, just outside the city gates. which happens enough that rubber is so cheap and accessible that it's used in children's toys for peasants.

There’s alot more lore to the story like when raphtalia’s parents are talking to her about the shield hero from times past. Bunch of small things add up to make more sense later on in the series like when the trader said “so he really did pick her”

I hear you that it's probably a legal / "legitimate" business in that world, I guess I have a hard time separating my own ideals/morals for the sake of worldbuilding another world when it comes to stuff like that! >.< Very true that the buyers have a large part in how despicable that trade could actually get, yikes...!!! :(

the slave trader isnt like a bad guy.. its just a business in that world (pretty sure its legal and etc.) i mean sure they live in cage and i dunno how he feed them but he isnt like abusing them or torturing them etc.. those who buying them however.. thats.. a whole different story though.. :///

In understanding the character better; I think it's important to remember that the 1st episode mentions that Naofumi, helped his younger brother get his life back on track after the brother had become a troubled teen:)

I think the fact that he choose her is mostly due to the fact that he saw her in his dream when he was in his world (beginning of the first episode). I'm not sure that he remembers her consciently or not. And she IS best girl ! And him, going with the slavery stuff, well... he is a broken man after what happend to him. He probably think he can't trust anyone now. We will see were this will lead him. And were she will lead him ;) Thanks for the reaction !

yeah at this episode I also just like you expected him to not buy any slaves, so I had similar feelings as you around him and Raphtalia but I liked the rest of the show well enough so I continued to watch
