Attack on Titan 3x15 "Descent" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of season 3, episode 15.   Soooo, the very brief and not-so-pure feeling victory over Reiner comes to a swift end in this ep!  My poor sweet Armin tries to reason with Bertholdt, who decided TODAY was the day he was just going to go all in on his Titan mission, otherwise I'm sure Armin would have succeeded!!!
:(  Long story short, we have our six kids against the Colossal Titan with many other squads (including Hange's) presumed dead.  What a cliffhanger!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh wow I didn't even catch that!!!!!! Thank you!

What they're showing in the information picture is an old fashioned coffee grinder like this one here: http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQLQo56QgApV9PeKiWf-qde3Y-4MhKBzbTuVvbRteTy4tpRnmzEribhQJbbIDjFoVXcJvGPOTXDARSIX1AcjGM =D

Hahaha hey, some things are classics for a reason!!! :D You're so right, it was nice to see things from their point of view. Thanks for pointing that out about Bertholdt, I didn't realize! Oh boy is right...the next eps are INSANE!! Hope you love my reactions to them! Thank YOU!

Melissa Moore

Hahaha!!! I think he might have fleas :P And thanks for pointing that out about Reiner!

Melissa Moore

Yay! No worries at all, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about Bertholdt! I never think about this, but he really was just a child when he broke down the wall. And to start caring about those people you've been raised to hate, only too late, because you've already destroyed their homes/lives....!!!! That's some heavy stuff! He really is the only one who dealt with it all so head-on, of the three of them. (LOL I loved the reference to Reiner's casual reveal, so crazy!!) Great point about his feelings in this ep mirroring Mikasa's as well. Wow, you know, I never realized all of this about Bertholdt, I'm so glad you mentioned it!!! Thanks!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Exactly! He really took center stage in this one. I didn't even realize he ranked 3rd and was able to hold his own against Mikasa!!!!!! Yeah, so it was all his state of mind I guess! I've been watching the ending the last few eps, thank you so much for the info! I believe I can watch the intro after ep 18? Or is it safe to watch now? (I just finished 17....and yes....expect some intensity in that one hahaha!!!!!!!) Thank you so much!!!

Melissa Moore

Melissa skipped the intro for season 2 as well until a certain point, and she will watch this intro after a few more episodes, but we all decided that the intro was a little too on the nose regarding plot points, and a couple of things in the intro could potentially spoil a couple of BIG events if she puts it together. The outro, though, is completely safe.

I never read the manga, so I assume my own conclusions match what you're referring to, but I don't want to say if it's a spoiler:)

Everyone else is saying something profound, but I’ll just put a little tidbit here: the liquid isn’t black tea, it’s only said that it’s akin to it because our crew doesn’t know what it is. But you should, cos it is something you find in the real world! Just not in more primitive times/places where they can’t get the supplies to make it

I'm going to be really original here : what a GREAT episode ! After our little glimpse into Reiner's brain in the last episode (no puns intended), we've got to hear Berthold thoughts. I really like that even if they are the enemies, we've still got to see a little bit on their side. Berthold really is a strong person, remember he was third in the top 10 cadets, just behind Reiner and Mikasa. So his "meek and timid" attitude is really the only thing that restrain(ed) him. We really are on a roll for some epic episodes now... Oh boy. Thanks for the reaction !

It’s actually not Marco she was apologising to. It’s confirmed to be a different soldier in an interview or data book somewhere. You can find it if you look it up for their name but it’s someone I’ve never heard of.

Beast titan have a itchy ear for some reason... :D you could see him scratching it even in human form :o or was it some kind of a hint ?? naah i dont think so :DD Reiner lied to the back so he is protected from the explosion and also be protected from our squad . buut.. there is absolutly no armor on his neck-- they could just spear his neck and they would progbably finish him off :D i mean.. they could give it a try.. :D

By the way, the lost girls OVA with Annie starts with Annie having a nightmare about Marco's death. And later she also recalls that scene while feeding the cat. Also in the first season after they plug the wall with the bolder, you can see Annie apologizing to someone who died, which by now we can safely say it's Marco. She really never got over that, despite how many people she killed afterwards.

Yes!! One of my favourite episodes! Now I can finally say a little bit of why Bertholdt is my favourite character without spoilers for what’s to come- sorry if it’s long-winded. I know not many people like him but I really do. He had it the worst out of the three Warriors (him, Reiner, and Annie). He was just a kid when he destroyed the wall (and became the thing of people’s nightmares) and he’s spent the years following that starting to care about the people whose lives he destroyed. The warriors were clearly taught the people in the walls were scum, only to realise that wasn’t true when it was too late. He was trapped. He loves the people in the walls but he knew they would never forgive him if they found out what he did. He couldn’t just come forward and admit it. Siding with the people in the walls was never an option for him because he knew they’d hate him when they found out the truth and they wouldn’t understand that he’d been manipulated into doing what he did (we saw him struggling with that back in season 2 when he broke down in tears). His only choice is to go ‘home’ because he has nowhere else to go. Annie became antisocial and kept her distance so she didn’t form strong bonds with the people in the walls in order to ease the guilt a bit and Reiner ended up escaping into mental instability and a split psyche to cope. Bertholdt was the only one who had to shoulder that massive burden all on his own. Whilst Annie could keep away and bury her feelings and Reiner just ended up crazy and stuck in the happy role of a soldier, Bertholdt had to suffer all alone and keep the others together and cover for Reiner’s dumb ass (“Hey Eren, did ya know we’re titans bro?”) And he accomplished all of this despite his meek personality and total lack of self-confidence- constantly being put down by even his best friend (Reiner) who he was supporting. And in this episode we saw him finally resolve himself. And why? Because he doesn’t want anyone else to have to go through what he did. He wants to put an end to it so no more warriors or soldiers will have to suffer. He’s still taking that burden completely on himself to try and ease the weight for everyone else. He realises that neither side is right or wrong but he has to put an end to it all so no one else has to suffer in the future. I also like that he parallels Mikasa in his realisation that the world is just that cruel- the same thing Mikasa on the other side has said multiple times. The dude is the most tragic character and yet most fans just hate him because he broke the wall and he doesn’t say much (I can get where they’re coming from though). I love Bertholdt! So underrated! Awesome reaction as always and sorry for my long comment!

what a great episode, it really pushes Bertholdt up as a character, him finally finding his determination makes you realise how powerful he is. we always think of him as second to Reiner but forget he is the Colossal Titan which is like the icon of the series, so it's fitting the buildup to him transforming is this intense. also he was even able to hold his own against Mikasa, he ranked 3rd in the Top 10 Cadets, however the instructor even said the only think holding Bert back was his lack of drive/motivation. As everyone is saying next week's episodes... hell the rest of the episodes of the season, are so great. I can't wait for you to watch the next ones, sounds like very intense reactions ahaha. Also sorry I should have said yes you can watch the ED, though by this point you're probably already watching the OP, it's such a great ED because it shows all the important moments that happened over the 3 years of training they had, wonder if you remember them all. excited for next week, and great reaction as always!

tom

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think she could just watch the intro without getting spoiled, right? Great reaction!!

NFM NFM

I kinda got the same impression actually, that he had to at least try to do the right thing first. Even though he quickly slips into threatening Annie afterwards haha! Thank you so much!!!! OMG, I think everyone needs to PREP for my reactions next week.....particularly Wednesday's. :'( I'm afraid to even sync/export the files because I desperately do not want to relive it......... o.O

Melissa Moore

I think Armin trying to negotiate with Bertholdt was actually Armin sticking to his morals. They're basically going to war with the titans currently and he said it's their last chance to negotiate. He went out of his way to make sure he used that chance. If he never did that, they would never know if this war was avoidable. Now, however it plays out, they seem to have done the right thing. Great episode, great reaction and.... is it next Monday already? :D

chavdar savov

Such a great quote.......and how interesting that in the end, we have people on both sides feeling so helpless at the cruelty of the world (I'm mostly referencing the soldier in the next ep, since I've seen the next two eps now)!!!

Melissa Moore

"This is a very strange feeling. I don't feel scared at all. I can see everything clearly. I feel like, no matter how this all plays out, I can accept whatever happens. That's right, nobody's in the wrong. There's nothing we could do. Because this world... is just... that cruel" -Bertholdt Hoover
