This month we are excited to present you with an art history lecture given by Tom Richards, Assistant Director of the Florence Academy of Art.

Originally presented for students beginning the Intensive Drawing program at the academy, this lecture, titled Art History 101 introduces several influential artists and artworks that students studying in Florence would be able to visit in person. Focusing mainly on sites and artists from Italy, Tom takes us through works in and around Venice, Florence and Siena, touching on the many strengths and unique qualities of the works and places. An insightful and engaging lecture, we are asked to consider the historical context of these buildings and artworks, a necessary first step for the much grander journey of understanding more deeply the art you view and the history of the people that make it. Be a novice or a celebrated art history veteran we hope you thoroughly enjoy this lecture!
