[Salvos] 692. The Illusion Lord (Removed for KU)

(Removed for KU)

Comments

I was just thinking about some peculiarities of Salvos' current statistics. Her [Identification] is level 6. This is incredibly low since she upgraded it to 4 while she was still a baby in the Netherworld, because she was so curious about things, and she hardly became less curious later on. For some reason, Haec's [Identification] is 8, if I remember correctly, and she did advanced alchemy, she must have used [Identification] quite extensively on things, and yet it didn't level up past 6. She has that draconic divine supersensory skill, and yet her [Identification] lags. I understand her healing skills lagging since she got dependent on healing potions with the humans, but with her constant exploration and use of magical senses, I would expect her to at least have some kind of [Appraisal], lesser at first, but more advanced by now, if not [God's Eye]. which is something both Samuel and Belphegor have. It seems to be one of those things you miss out on if you get a [Lesser God] evolution at 150. Regardless, her poor identification and lack of [Appraisal] are an anomaly, and especially so if we have in mind that she managed to upgrade even the universal language comprehension, which nobody seems to have done. She doesn't have an ability to heal others, despite showing much interest in Willy's green healing light. It's not that she never found herself in a situation where she had an injured friend that needed healing, so a complete blind spot there is surprising. Is healing in some way incompatible with other type of skills? For instance, if fire is one branch of magic, and healing is another, and it's either-or, that would be understandable, but I'm not sure it's like that. After all, fire and space magic seem to be separate branches, and she is a master of both. Her ability to hold a speech and communicate ideas gradually is stunted. It made sense at first, but she did show the ability to make a compelling argument; it's just that I expected her to become much better at this by now. Also, I expected her to practice writing more after people mocked her handwriting, and her usual reaction to this is to practice until she attains mastery. For instance, she did upgrade her navigation skills that were initially nonexistent, to the degree where she's slightly below average, and she upgraded empathy from almost zero to the point of arcane soul magic.

I don't think it's her, it's just that she's following Haec and he's imposing a recursive task list upon her, with additional stupid elements such as not being able to just let Hartia free everybody because they have feels and you need to work around that slowly and gain trust because Haec wants to be the leader of the people or whatever and basically prioritises everybody over Salvos and her needs and treats her like a tool to accomplish his goals. She would never do things this way if it were just her; she'd probably do things in the exactly opposite order: sabotage the ritual first to gain time, for instance by phasing out of sight, going to the ritual site, moving between the planes and then applying her magic to completely re-route everything, and possibly nuke the ritual site with corruption to make it completely impossible for Regnorex to do anything for at least another cycle. Then systematically level, make a portal to her lair by the Mavos academy to check up on things, nuke the centinels to level, kill the Matriarch with Clayton's help, and then slowly level to her evolution and then go back to the Netherworld and start killing everybody associated with Regnorex by sneak attacks, and then eventually kill Regnorex. However, that's all under the assumption that the corruption arc can be postponed, but it seems it will all come together at once in a very dangerous way, the way it usually does for her. She plans, she implements it, she levels, everything works, and then the Lich lvl 145 arrives and everything goes to shit.

I just noticed something: Salvos doesn't have a strong goal right now. Up until now she desperately wanted to reunite with Haec, protect the companions whenever there was immediate danger or survive herself. All of that quite desperately. Now she wants to stop the ritual for Haec but it doesn't feel urgent. She wants to meet her companions, friends and children again but she assumes they are safe. She isn't actively hunted by something dangerous. Even if [The Great Agarus] showed up again, she can manage. Salvos needs a new goal that occupies her mind. A new goal those around her constantly remind her of. It could be that she takes a glance at the mortal realm and realizes that her companions are in real danger. It could be [The Great Agarus] showing up again and forcing her to fight by effectively holding the freed legions hostage. It could be that Haec and the strong people around start discussing the repercussions of the ritual to reinforce the idea that not only will a lot of demons not be born but the mortal realm will be overrun by demons and everyone Salvos cares about will die.

Dragonmaster_42

I think you're right. They were all shaped by their environments and Salvos just had the best one. To achieve her goal, she needed to get stronger and collaborate with weaker people. That reinforced her proud but compassionate nature more than the Netherworld where everything wants to kill her.

Dragonmaster_42

I was just thinking... is Rakin a "normal" demon? I mean, if humans saw him, they would feel perfectly validated in all their prejudice about demons. They would think "yeah, of course they are like that". And yet, he seems to be merely a reflection of what Regnorex selects for, to the point where Basil the Fairy had to conform to that stereotype in order to fit in. But it would be wrong to assume that Regnorex is the root of all evil; in fact, both Belzu and that Savage Agarat have nothing to do with Regnorex, and yet, they have been shaped into cruel beings by the nature of the environment. Also, the higher-levelled they are, the more arrogant and power-hungry they seem to be, and Salvos is a great exception in that she seems to be the exact opposite. When she was young, she was all about power, mocking others for being weaker and so on, but as she grew extremely powerful, to the point where there is only a handful more powerful beings in her world, her ego seems to have calmed down, and as she became more secure and confident, she became kinder, gentler, more empathic. Apparently, she's the counterpoint to "power corrupts". In her case, power heals.

I’m also quite looking forward to this reunion. One thing in particular I am curious about is what happens to Salvos’ clone when she returns? Do they stay separate entities or do they synchronize their memories and possibly abilities?

Brett Voyles

Honestly, I'm more interested in her emotional reunions with friends and companions than the mechanics of levels and evolutions; for instance, I would like to see her reunion with Clayton. Judging on his emotions looking at that monument, he'll have things to tell her, or just hug her, which would normally be completely out of character for him, but he must be really torn up about it all - how she must have felt all alone and isolated in her secret, how she must have felt that the entire burden of war is on her and she can't really rely on anyone to help her, which is how he feels now, when he asked for help against the Centinels and no human forces came, only the friends of Salvos and her clone. The way he opened the fight by firing off his grand skill is reminiscent of how she opened the final battle, and he must be thinking it's for the same reason - because he has nobody to rely on now, it's all down to him.

Seeing Beast and all grabd skills upgreades seemed like pimordial is far away for Salvos, but maybe it is time to start thinking what would be next evolution

She needs to level up, fast. So far, she has special abilities that enable her to easily kill lvl.180+ primevals, basically she fights 20 levels above her weight, but her fight against Lotus showed that she still lacks the brute force needed in order to go against the primordials. However, her ability to kill lvl.180+ demons allows her to level fast, at least until she reaches lvl.190 herself. This is actually a bigger priority than freeing the slaves, because if she doesn't get strong enough for Regnorex, they all get killed. Also, it would be nice if she had more actual allies than Haec, for instance a combination-casting between herself and Basil would pack quite a punch. Currently, her main weakness are her levels, and the fact that she's not surrounded by people who love her enough to defend her with their life if she's out or wounded. Also, the corruption looks like something that will eventually kill her if she doesn't figure out something nobody figured out in 50ky. Her main strength is diversity and rarity of abilities, and the number of points that she got from her species, class and titles that seem to be highly uncommon for a primeval demon, which allows her to punch above her weight class. Essentially, she has divinity, corruption mastery, four grand skills, space magic mastery, soul magic, highest-level shapeshifting, and divine nebular creation magic. She's weak against lvl.200 entities that have control over divinity and/or corruption. We don't actually know the highest level she can fight on equal terms, because she toyed with Venas lvl.188, and she only had a problem with Hartia because she really, really didn't want to kill a Fairy. Honestly, if she really wanted him dead, she'd find a way through his fractal shield. Trying to kill that Cerberus of Hell lvl. 193 or whatever might be a good test of her abilities, but she might need grand skills for that. Also, her "divine essence" grand skill doesn't look as impressive at this point. On one hand, this is good because it means she got much stronger on her baseline, but it's bad because she might need more of a boost in critical fights. I wish it levelled up to a higher grade of Divinity, even if it means postponing her evolution, because she's going to fight seriously powerful demons and she will need all the help she can get, and even then she might die.

Danijel Turina

Well, Rakin isn't dead yet. He's not in the vanguard, so there's still his grand skill(s?). He should be higher lleveled than Hartia and we have to see what his subspecies/class do beyond illusions. He might give Salvos as much trouble.

Dragonmaster_42

Legions seem to consist primary of demons under level 100, and very few demons above lvl 100. And it is Salvation period now - there shouldn't be any threats around now that the wild demons have stopped attacking everyone nearby.

Alexey Gladkich

Wow legion 18 must be esay to beat. Everyone is asleep, leader is cilling in the air.

Tim

Salvos must be bored to tears spending the last million years un-collaring the 3rd legion, no wonder she's smiling now. :)

Danijel Turina

New definition of Salvation: a period in the Netherworld when Salvos comes and does her thing. :)

Danijel Turina

I wonder whether Basil will stick around, I'd like him to se some real ass kicking by Salvos; "Wait, you wiped out those lvl 190 guys like they're nothing, and you seemed to have so much trouble with me? Did you go easy on me? Why?" "I have a soft spot for Fairies because of Lily, you silly."

Danijel Turina

I recently thought of a good reason to free the legions and kill the high-levelled minions before going for Regnorex: he will absolutely have one of those title buffs where he gets more strength when surrounded by minions. Dispersing that first might be essential.

Danijel Turina

Well, the opponent is in the process of turning crispy, so she might as well mind her manners. :)

Danijel Turina

Rakin: Like Belzu, but more evil. Salvos: In the mood to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And there ain't no gum in the Netherworld. :)

Danijel Turina

There's actually 50, if I remember correctly. No way are they going to free all of them before Regnorex completes that ritual. Or are they? How long does Salvation last, anyway? I thought it was weeks.

Danijel Turina

Reggie and his goons really prepared a buffet for Salvos and her rebellion... All this tormenting... On the other hand, those guys aren't that high leveled.

Dragonmaster_42

Oh god I thought there were no more than 4 legions, now a minimum of 18 legions

Sivart

Hi! I'm Salvos!

Manlor

Loved it!

Skylar

She is truly living up to her name, Salvos.

WingedIkaros

Focus on friends more then the opponents?
