As Base Two expanded, the underground cavern deep within River Valley had been transformed to the point where its original appearance was nearly unrecognizable.
A massive alloy gate, almost a meter thick, fifteen meters tall, and thirty meters wide, sealed off the entrance to the underground cavern, serving as the first line of defense for Base Two's central control center.
Ignoring the defenses, sensors, and stationed combat robots both inside and outside the alloy gate, Sun Cheng and his team made their way inside.
The already spacious passageway had evidently been further widened and reinforced. The surrounding rocky terrain of the cavern had been almost entirely excavated, replaced with a plethora of steel-reinforced concrete structures and metal partitions. This expansion not only doubled the total area of Base Two's central control center but also significantly enhanced its resistance to underground missile strikes and earthquake resistance.
As Base Two continued to expand outward, most of the manufacturing capabilities originally concentrated within the underground cavern had been relocated to more extensive areas outside.
Consequently, the central control center had gained a substantial amount of extra space, which had been repurposed into various large warehouses, laboratories, meeting rooms, and more.
Atlas quickly gathered a group of engineers who met the promotion criteria, totaling seven individuals, among whom Sun Cheng recognized Adam and Mora.
"Master, your loyal servants salute you!" When Sun Cheng entered the meeting room where these engineers had assembled, they all bowed and paid their respects.
Within the Skytiger Legion, a strict hierarchy system was in place. Engineers, despite their title, were essentially a specialized class developed by Shockwave during the cybertronCivil War, specifically for various mining, manufacturing, logistical, and other tasks. Although they bore the title of Engineers, within the internal hierarchy of the Skytiger Legion, they were essentially slaves, subject to mistreatment by anyone.
Engineers held an even lower status within the Skytiger Legion compared to the Medical Spiders, who could be disposed of at any moment if the Decepticons were unhappy during treatment.
While Sun Cheng had never explicitly emphasized this hierarchy, the foundational database had been copied from Atlas and other original Engineers, and the Decepticon Engineers bred by Base Two had inherited this sense of rank and hierarchy from the beginning.
As the primary beneficiary of this hierarchical system, Sun Cheng had no intention of forcibly correcting it.
His gaze shifted to Mora, who seemed somewhat out of place among the seven Decepticon Engineers. A faint smile tugged at the corners of Mora's mouth.
In contrast to the mass-produced slaves of the Skytiger Legion, the Engineers bred by Base Two were positioned from the start as valuable and vital assets rather than mere slaves. While their mechanical bodies might not match those of Sun Cheng's engineers, they were far superior to the mass-produced Engineer slaves of the Skytiger Legion.
Recognizing Adam was not surprising; Adam was the first Decepticon Engineer successfully bred by Base Two and had been present in the laboratory at the time.
As for Mora, he was also among the first, the first humanoid Decepticon created by Base Two, despite the less mature technology.
"Mora has performed exceptionally well in Bo Nation, and other Decepticon Engineers dispatched to various countries in South America have also received positive feedback for successfully carrying out Base Two's directives in influencing the political landscape..."
"It seems that we need to redefine the Engineers' promotion paths. The traditional path to promotion for Engineers remains unchanged, with promotion to Engineer upon meeting the criteria..."
"As for Mora and the other humanoid Decepticons, we should consider separating them from the Engineers and create a new classification for them, potentially establishing a new promotion path for this class, perhaps as spies..."
Countless thoughts raced through Sun Cheng's mind, and he quickly formed a framework for how to proceed with improvements.
Under his illusionary control, robotic duplicates passed a metal plate to him.
Sun Cheng accepted it and scanned the contents with two beams of deep blue light emitted from his eyes, instantly grasping what was stored inside.
Nodding in satisfaction, he remarked, "You've done well!"
The Decepticon meeting room was a vast, open space with cheap carbon steel walls. Apart from the lighting fixtures and a few discreet monitors, there were no decorations.
Sun Cheng surveyed the room, and a few engineers, visibly excited because of his earlier words, eagerly awaited his command.
"Atlas, I approve the promotion of this group of engineers. Prepare to start crafting new mechanical bodies for them!"
"Yes, Master!"
The engineers all knelt half-bowed, trembling as they pledged their loyalty to Sun Cheng. This was a recent addition to their etiquette.
After gesturing for them to rise, Sun Cheng pointed at Mora and said, "Mora, stay behind; the rest of the engineers can leave for now. When your new mechanical bodies are ready, the base will notify you to undergo the change."
Once the engineers had respectfully exited the meeting room, Sun Cheng turned his attention to Atlas, who still maintained a human-like form.
"Atlas, how is the assimilation of the humanoid Decepticon technology obtained from Scalpel progressing?"
The mature humanoid Decepticon technology had always been one of Sun Cheng's most coveted pieces of advanced technology.
Several South American countries currently under Base Two's control had not shown any overt resistance due to Sun Cheng's personally devised "pig-rearing policy." However, being a human himself, Sun Cheng was well aware of humanity's insatiable and ambitious nature.
Taking his own history with humans into account when formulating the "pig-rearing policy," he had foreseen that in the not-so-distant future, perhaps in a few years or even just one year, those pigs he had personally fattened would rise up in rebellion for greater gains.
To completely dismantle this inevitable uprising, the best approach was to physically eliminate the rebels. Hence, Sun Cheng's fervent desire for humanoid Decepticon technology: he needed more loyal humanoid Decepticons to infiltrate human society silently and replace the politicians in the small South American countries under his control.
Even someday, when the control technology was more mature, Sun Cheng would consider bringing them back to the real world.
Atlas's voice brimmed with excitement as he waved the two newly installed arms on his back. "The assimilation is proceeding exceptionally well, Master. As per your request, we've prioritized the assimilation of humanoid Decepticon breeding technology. Even the relevant Vehicon technology has been sorted out and is currently in the trial assimilation phase..."
Vehicons were the true name of the Decepticon cannon fodder warriors created by Starscream and his team.
As the name suggested, Vehicons were selected from suitable warriors within the Skytiger Legion. Their memory data and combat experience were backed up, and through special breeding techniques, Decepticon warriors with the same memories and combat experience could be mass-produced when needed.
This breeding technique was akin to copying Decepticons, giving rise to the Vehicons project.
